Sydney Sweeney dodges responsibility for ‘genes’ ad again

Sydney Sweeney was asked about that American Eagle ‘good genes’ ad again, and she avoided taking any responsibility for it.

Sweeney drew immense backlash for the ad earlier this year since the ad featured a wordplay on ‘good jeans’ and ‘good genes.’ Netizens thought it was racist and glorified having blue eyes and being white, others thought it catered to the male gaze and was overly sexual. 

The Euphoria star didn’t address the backlash at the time, and she’s dodging questions about it in the present.

In a new interview with The Guardian to promote her new film Christy, she argued that she has no control over how people interpret her actions.

“I think what’s interesting is I’m always myself. I’m always just me. But it’s what other people put on me that’s uncontrollable,” she said.

“Like you’re going to write this article… Then people will read it and have their own perception. So I try and be as much of me as possible, but it’s always through other people’s lenses,” the Echo Valley star added.

In a previous interview with GQ, she noted that she wasn’t aware of the backlash over the ad since she was filming the new season of Euphoria at the time.

“It was surreal… it’s not that I didn’t have that feeling, but I wasn’t thinking of it like that. Or like, of any of it. I kind of just put my phone away,” she told the magazine.

“I was filming every day. I’m filming Euphoria, so I’m working 16-hour days and I don’t really bring my phone on set, so I work and then I go home and I go to sleep. So I didn’t really see a lot of it,” she added.

Sydney’s new film Christy follows the personal and professional life of boxer Christy Martin. The movie has joined the top 12 worst ever openings for a film showing on more than 2000 screens, per Box Office Mojo. The film has made a dismal $1.3 million over the weekend.

Netflix said on Thursday that it will not match Paramount Skydance’s latest bid for Warner Bros. Discovery, clearing the way for a massive merger that could shake up the entertainment and media industry. 

Netflix agreed in December to buy part of Warner Bros. Discovery for $27.75 a share, or $82.7 billion. But Paramount Skydance had made a $30 a share all-cash offer to buy all of the company, and on Tuesday raised its offer for Warner Bros. Discovery to $31 a share (Paramount Skydance owns CBS News.)

Earlier on Thursday, Warner Bros. Discovery’s board of directors notified Netflix that Paramount’s $31 per share offer constituted a “superior proposal” for the company.

“The transaction we negotiated would have created shareholder value with a clear path to regulatory approval,” Netflix co-CEOs Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters said in a statement Thursday. “However, we’ve always been disciplined, and at the price required to match Paramount Skydance’s latest offer, the deal is no longer financially attractive, so we are declining to match the Paramount Skydance bid.”

Paramount Skydance didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. 

Warner Bros. Discovery owns streaming and film studios, along with cable channels including CNN, Food Network, HBO, HGTV, TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies.

The merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery will require approval from federal antitrust enforcers. Paramount Skydance executives have said that combining the companies would benefit consumers and help boost the entertainment industry, which has struggled to recover from the pandemic. 

Some entertainment industry groups and lawmakers have raised concerns that uniting two major Hollywood studios could undermine competition. 

For its part, Paramount Skydance executives had argued that a union of Netflix and Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns streaming platform HBO Max, was likely to arouse antitrust objections.

In enhancing its offer this week, Paramount Skydance said it would pay a $7 billion termination fee if its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery collapsed over regulatory concerns.

Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper are sticking together while the actor faces backlash on social media, following scandalous allegations about him.

The supermodel, 30, and the American Hustle star, 51, stepped out in coordinating fall-themed outfits on Wednesday, February 25, in New York City.

Hadid sported a pair of grey trousers and a chocolate-brown coat, with her hair in a messy bun, and Cooper paired black trousers with a beige shacket and black puffer jacket.

The couple were seen leaving the screening of Frankenstein, with a Q&A Event featuring Jacob Elordi at the DGA Theater.

Hadid and Cooper have been together since 2023, and have already hard-launched their relationship on Instagram.

Last December, they attended a Broadway performance of Samuel Becket’s Waiting for Godot, and posed for a picture together behind-the-scenes.

While the duo has kept their relationship lowkey, it has been in the spotlight in recent times as fans were speculating about the next step for the couple.

Social media sleuths also called out Cooper for his name being in the Epstein files. Neither Hadid or Cooper have addressed the allegation.

“Heated Rivalry” Season 2 is coming “as soon as humanly possible,” says creator Jacob Tierney



A second season of “Heated Rivalry” is in the works, with shooting expected to begin in August.

“We are writing it now,” show creator and director Jacob Tierney said on “CBS Mornings” Thursday. “We’re getting ready to start shooting this summer. And there will be more ‘Heated Rivalry’ on your TVs as — like, truly — as soon as humanly possible.”

The next season is expected in 2027, but a release date has not been announced yet.

“Like the best parts of this show, just enjoy the yearn,” executive producer Brendan Brady said about the wait for the second season.

The romance on HBO Max about hockey players Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov begins with a secret fling between two rivals and eventually turns into a yearslong journey of love, denial and self-discovery. It is based on the “Game Changers” book series by Rachel Reid and has been so popular it has averaged more than 10.5 million viewers per episode in the U.S. alone, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.

Tierney believes it resonates because it is “very romantic.”

“It has the hallmarks and trappings of a real classic romance, years of longing and yearning and trying to get together and do the right thing for each other and not being able to, and then eventually a happy ending,” he said.

“It is laser-focused on that love story. There’s not a lot of diversion from it. And I think that’s what the audience responds to, is kind of the intensity and the focus of the storytelling,” he said.

Editor’s note: “Heated Rivalry” Season 2 will begin shooting in August, but no official release date has been announced.
