A man stabbed to death nine people, including five children, overnight in Suriname’s capital Paramaribo, police said Sunday, adding the suspect was wounded and arrested.

The man appeared to be suffering from mental health issues, and four of his own children were among the fatalities in the attack, which took place in and around his home, according to local media reports.

The suspect had an argument with his wife over the phone before stabbing one of the victims, his 11-year-old daughter, 44 times in the kitchen of their home, local media reported.

“A man killed four adults and five children with a sharp object at a residence in Hadji Iding Soemitaweg,” the local police said in a statement. “A sixth child and an adult were seriously injured and were transported to the hospital, according to the statement.

Officers who arrived on the scene had to open fire on the suspect, as “he attacked police with a sharp object,“ the statement said.

The man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and has been hospitalised under police supervision, police said without identifying him.

“Further details regarding the true circumstances of this tragic attack will follow,” the statement concluded.

According to the local press, which visited the scene of the attack and spoke to the man’s neighbours in Hadji Iding Soemitaweg, a neighbourhood in the Commewijne district, the suspect had mental health issues.

Suriname’s President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons stated in response to the killings on her Facebook page.

“At a time when family and friends should stand together and support one another, we are faced with the harsh reality that there is another side to the world,” she wrote.

“A father who takes the lives of his own children and, in the process, kills his neighbours as well. I wish all those in mourning much strength, courage, and comfort in this unimaginably difficult time.“

Adam Peaty’s estranged brother James has broken his silence with a post said to carry a ‘dark hidden meaning’ aimed at his sibling, after being uninvited from his wedding. 

Adam Peaty was moved to tears when Holly Ramsay walked down the aisle at their wedding ceremony on December, 27, at Bath Abbey.

According to reports, majority of the groom’s family were not in attendance.

Further reports claim that Adam’s father, Mark was the only person invited to their big day, however he was allegedly told he’d have to sit at the back ‘behind the plus ones.’

Now, James posted an old photograph with their mother, Caroline Peaty, standing outside of the wedding venue. 

The poignant photo was deleted just 15 minutes after it was shared on his Instagram Story, perhaps signalling regret at how bitter the feud has become.

Notably, James – who was arrested for allegedly sending threatening messages to the athlete during his stag do – used a telling song alongside the image.J

James’s song of choice was a remix of Speak Softly, Love, which appears several times in the iconic Mafia film, The Godfather. 

Most his family stayed at home 150 miles away while the couple tied the knot in front of 200 guests in Somerset.

A family source told The Sun on Sunday: ‘Frankly, it’s disgusting that it went ahead without Adam reaching out to his mum and dad beforehand.’

According to the publication, Mark was told by Adam’s sister Beth he was allowed to attend the ceremony but he had to sit at the back.

The source added: ‘For him to turn around and tell Beth that his dad could come and sit at the back of the church is awful.

‘Mark was told he could sit behind plus-ones — who Adam has probably never even seen or spoken to.’

The insider also claimed that Caroline became emotional as soon as she saw the photos released following the big day.

Adam Peaty’s heartbroken mother, Caroline, was seen for the first time since her son married his wife Holly Ramsay without her in attendance.

The couple, who became engaged in September, 12, 2024, said ‘I do’ on December, 27 at Bath Abbey.

After deciding against attending the ceremony uninvited, Caroline was seen visiting her own mother, Mavis, on Sunday.

It comes after Caroline revealed to the DailyMail that she has been left shattered over missing her son’s big day, saying the couple have hurt her deeply.

Caroline looked downcast as she left her family home in Staffordshire, hours after her husband Mark was also seen out and about. 

Her appearance came after it was revealed that Mark had been invited to the wedding on one condition: he would have to sit it in the back row.

From Adam’s side, his younger sister Bethany is the only member who believed to have remain close following the family fallout. 

Bethany joined Holly’s sisters, Tilly and Megan, as they led the bridal party at the couple’s wedding on Saturday.

The insider continued: ‘It was a difficult day for Caroline and Mark, so the family spent the evening together. Caroline got upset as soon as she saw the photographs from the wedding.

Meanwhile Adam’s mum Caroline said she is trying to stay upbeat and positive but, in truth, her heart is breaking.
