Best Performing Mutual Funds
When evaluating a mutual fund investment, one of the primary factors investors often look at is the scheme’s past performance over a few years. While historical returns do not guarantee future gains, they do offer useful insight into how a fund has performed across market cycles.
In this context, we have shortlisted the best-performing mid-cap equity mutual funds that have delivered more than 25% annualised returns over the past five years.
What are mid-cap mutual funds?
Mid-cap mutual funds are schemes that invest at least 65% of their total assets in mid-cap stocks. As per the latest data from the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) as of October 31, 2025, there are 31 mid-cap mutual fund schemes with a combined assets under management (AUM) of Rs 4.54 lakh crore.
As seen in the table above, some of the top-performing mid-cap funds over the last five years include Motilal Oswal Mid Cap Fund, which generated annualised returns of 30.31%, followed by HDFC Mid Cap Fund (27.57%), Invesco India Mid Cap Fund (26.44%) and Mahindra Manulife Mid Cap Fund (25.99%).
To put these returns into perspective, an investment of Rs 1 lakh made five years ago would have grown to about Rs 3.05 lakh at a CAGR of 25%. At a 30% annualised return, the same investment would have increased to nearly Rs 3.71 lakh.
However, investors should remember that past performance is just one of several factors to consider before investing. Other important aspects include the credibility of the fund house, the category of the scheme, the track record of the fund manager (for actively managed funds) and prevailing macroeconomic conditions.
