China urges Mexico to follow WTO rules in anti-dumping investigations



China recently urged Mexico to comply with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules in its anti-dumping investigations and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies.

A Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said the country firmly opposes protectionist measures that harm its legitimate rights and interests, and will closely monitor the development of the investigations.

Mexico has opened 11 anti-dumping investigations into Chinese products till now this year—nearly twice of last year’s total, a Chinese state-controlled media outlet reported.

In response to Mexico’s proposed tariff hikes and other restrictions, China is probing trade and investment barriers in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

The spokesperson said that against the backdrop of excessive use of tariffs by the United States, China holds that all countries should work together to oppose unilateralism, curb the spread of protectionism and refrain from imposing restrictions on China under various pretexts due to external coercion.

In response to Mexico’s proposed tariff increases and other restrictions, the ministry has launched an investigation into trade and investment barriers in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

Vietnam’s Ministry of Finance recently drafted a socio-economic development plan for next year, setting the gross domestic product (GDP) growth target at 10 per cent—a sharp rise over this year’s expected growth.

In its recent report to the government, the ministry said all 15 key indicators of the economy are expected to achieve target.

The plan outlined 10 key policies, including institutional reforms and ensuring macroeconomic stability.

GDP growth is projected to reach at least 8 per cent this year, with per capita income rising to $5,000 and inflation staying at around 4 per cent, providing the launch pad for double-digit growth in 2026.

However, the double-digit growth target is far more ambitious than forecasts by international institutions.

The draft plan outlined 10 key policies. These include hastening institutional reforms, ensuring macroeconomic stability, shifting to a new growth model, accelerating investment in infrastructure, enhancing human resource quality, and advancing science, technology and innovation.

The ministry noted that economic hubs like Hanoi, HCM City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Dong Nai and Lam Dong would need to post double-digit growth to generate momentum for the broader economy, a domestic news outlet reported.

Vietnam’s economy expanded at 7.52 per cent in the first half this year—the highest recorded during the 2011-25 period.

White Stuff continues to prosper with its latest results showing a more-than-20% sales rise in the year to the end of March.

In its 40th anniversary year and owned by TFG London since last autumn, the fashion and lifestyle label with 100+ UK stores has been opening new locations and also has plans to open a further 10 stores next year.

Sales in its latest year rose 20.3% to £184 million, The Times reported.

Its parent company didn’t release any brand-specific profit figures, but White Stuff had filed its figures for the year to the end of April 2024 in August 2024 at which point pre-tax profits had jumped from £47,000 to £4.8 million. Its next set of accounts is due to be filed at Companies House by the end of December so we may get a clearer picture of profits at that point.

Back with the latest year, it also saw customer numbers surging 41% as the business opened new stores and invested more money in marketing.

That resulted in a strong Christmas trading period and back in January, it had said that in the 10 weeks to 4 January, it saw a 21.8% increase in total sales. Buoyant trading was underpinned by it being a strong season for knitwear as well as the company acquiring new customers at a record level.

The company also said trading in its first half of the new financial year (the six months to September 2025) has been in line with expectations. Saying something like “in line with expectations” can actually mean both good news or bad, but in this case it appears to be the former as it said trading is ahead of last year. That’s despite challenging conditions that have dented sales at fashion business both large and small.

MD Tracey Verghese said: “This has been another strong year for White Stuff, with double-digit sales growth, despite ongoing pressures in the external environment.

“There’s still plenty of opportunity for the brand to roll out more shops over the next few years. New stores play an important role in growing our reach and bringing White Stuff to new customers.”
