China’s July power use hits 1.02T kWh, up 8.6% on year
China’s electricity consumption surpassed the 1-trillion-kilowatt-hours (T kWh) mark in July, reflecting robust industrial activity and surging demand from households during heat waves, the National Energy Administration said.
Power use reached 1.02 T kWh in July, rising 8.6 per cent year-on-year. The primary industry consumed 17 billion kWh, up 20.2 per cent, while the secondary industry’s use increased 4.7 per cent to 593.6 billion kWh. Consumption in the tertiary sector climbed 10.7 per cent to 208.1 billion kWh.
Residential demand saw particularly sharp growth amid prolonged high temperatures and humidity, with household electricity use jumping 18 per cent to 203.9 billion kWh.
From January to July, China’s total electricity consumption increased 4.5 per cent from a year earlier, exceeding 5.86 T kWh.
