Gabriele Maggio is reportedly the executive chosen by new owners Borletti and Quadrivio to lead Italian womenswear label Twinset. Maggio, who stepped down from the CEO role at ready-to-wear label Elisabetta Franchi in October, is said to be about to replace Alessandro Varisco, Twinset’s current CEO.

Contacted by FashionNetwork.com, Varisco was unable to comment on the rumour that he is set to leave the label after over 10 years at the helm. He also declined to comment on a possible handover between him and Maggio.

Twinset is about to start a new era, presumably under Maggio, after being sold by the Carlyle investment fund to Italian investment firms Borletti and Quadrivio in June 2025.

The deal ended a lengthy, bumpy divestiture process. Carlyle had initially put Twinset up for sale in 2020, commissioning the sale to JP Morgan, but the pandemic stopped proceedings.

Maggio has a 20-year experience in the luxury sector, having worked at Giorgio Armani, Prada, Moschino, Bottega Veneta and Gucci. Prior to joining Elisabetta Franchi, he was president and CEO of Stella McCartney.

As a result of the acquisition, Borletti and Quadrivio share a 100% stake in Twinset, in a club deal alongside co-investors Narval Investimenti and Ersel Banca Privata.

Twinset was founded by Simona Barbieri and Tiziano Sgarbi in 1987. In fiscal 2024, it recorded revenue of over €200 million, with EBITDA of over €30 million. The label operates more than 120 monobrand stores worldwide.
