ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court in the federal capital on Thursday granted post-arrest bail to lawyer and activist Imaan Mazari and her husband, Hadi Ali Chattha, in a case related to an alleged scuffle with police.

The couple was arrested by Islamabad police last month for alleged involvement in an altercation outside the Islamabad High Court (IHC). The case was registered at the Secretariat Police Station.

The applications were heard by ATC Judge Abul Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain, who approved Imaan and Chattha’s bail against surety bonds of Rs10,000 each.

During the hearing, counsel Riasat Ali Azad argued on behalf of the petitioners, saying that the case was fabricated and surfaced suddenly. He maintained that the FIR had no grounds and was based on a fictitious incident. Even those nominated were unaware of the case, he added.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict and later announced approval of the bail pleas.

It may be noted that the couple will remain behind bars despite the bail, as a district and sessions court in Islamabad also convicted them in a separate case of the controversial tweets last month.

Notices issued in controversial tweets case

In a related development, the IHC issued notices to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) on Imaan and Chattha’s applications against their conviction.

In separate petitions filed in the high court, they had maintained that their convictions were the result of a “patently illegal and arbitrary trial”.

The couple also sought suspension of their sentences and release on bail pending the final decision of the main appeal.

The conviction came just a day after their arrest in the scuffle case last month, when Additional Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka sentenced the husband and wife to a total of 17 years in prison each under different sections related to controversial social media posts.

According to the 22-page written verdict, Mazari and her husband were sentenced to five years in jail each with a fine of Rs5 million each under section 9 of the Peca; sentenced to 10 years each with a fine Rs30 million each under section 10 of the Peca.

Moreover, the couple was also convicted under section 26-A of the Peca and were sentenced to 2 years each with a fine of Rs1 million each.

The two had been booked by the NCCIA under Sections 9, 10, 11 and 26 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), 2016 and were subsequently indicted on October 30, 2025.

The first information report (FIR) alleges that the couple attempted to incite divisions on linguistic grounds through social media posts.

David Henrie and wife Maria announce surprise 4th pregnancy

The expecting parents tied the knot in 2017 and welcomed their first child in 2019

David Henrie and wife Maria Cahill’s dream of a big family is coming true.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2017, announced on Sunday, April 5, that they are expecting their fourth child together.

“SURPRISE! Figured this moment was as good as ever to share the good news… Maria is 5 months pregnant!” the Wizards of Waverly Place star wrote on Instagram, noting that the pregnancy was a bit of a surprise.

“Crazy story. Long story short, Maria and I had made peace with the idea that the ‘big family’ dream might not be God’s plan for us. Which was fine, we’re grateful for our 3!” he wrote. “Through a miraculous encounter that would have never happened without @seekingbeauty.ewtn in Seville, Spain , and the intercession of St. Teresa of Avila, we are having our 4th!”

Editing the caption, Cahill added a message of support for everyone who is struggling with conceiving after her own experience with multiple miscarriages.

“While I’m excited for David to share this with you, I also know that it can be so hard to read pregnancy announcements when you’re the one that’s trying to have a baby and nothing seems to be working. I’ve been there – trying to be happy for others but simultaneously grieving a happiness that I wish could have been mine,” the former pageant queen wrote.

“While I’m so overjoyed to add a brother to our family, I can’t help but think of all of you women. Know that I see you all, am thinking of you today, and are praying hard for your future pregnancies,” she added.

The expecting parents welcomed their first child together — daughter Philomena Francesca Henrie — in 2019 after a blessing from Pope Francis. In 2020, they welcomed son James, and another daughter in 2022.

Gabrielle Union pens heartbreaking tribute after dad’s death from dementia

Sylvester ‘Cully’ Union Jr. passes away from dementia at age 81

Gabrielle Union is mourning the loss of her father, Sylvester “Cully” Union Jr.

The actress’ father passed away on Friday morning (April 3) at the age of 81 after a difficult battle with dementia. A day later, she took to Instagram to pen a lengthy tribute, opening up about the devastating progression of the illness.

“No matter how much you think you know about dementia, nothing prepares you for the painfully slow disappearing of your loved one,” she wrote, describing the heartbreaking reality of watching him fade. “The them that you know gets smaller and smaller… It’s brutal and it’s what he experienced, but it wasn’t who he was.”

But beyond the pain, Union made sure to celebrate the man he was. The 53-year-old remembered her father as someone who “never met a stranger, just friends he hadn’t met yet,” a die-hard Nebraska fan who instilled values of teamwork, resilience, and compassion. She also reflected on his growth over the years, noting that he “acknowledged his imperfections, apologized, and made amends.”

Union also thanked those who cared for him in his final years, including medical staff and her sisters, calling them “heroes.”

The tribute was accompanied by a touching video montage, featuring clips of Sylvester singing, celebrating, and spending time with family.

Sylvester Union Jr. had battled dementia for years and was placed in memory care in 2023, something Union had previously shared with fans.

“It’s bewildering to feel relief that the pain has ended,” the tribute continued, “but profound heartbreak at the finality of his time. I know I’m not the first or last Daddy’s girl to go through this, and I’m sending love and healing to anyone suffering the loss of a parent. I know his love is eternal and will find me in every realm.”
