Instagram chief refutes kids’ social media addiction allegations

Meta US trial Instagram chief refutes kids’ social media addiction allegations

In a huge lawsuit lodged in the California court, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has rejected the assumption that teenage social media users could be clinically addicted to social media.

Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, along with Google-owned YouTube, are defendants in the trial which is expected to set a legal precedent regarding whether popular social media platforms intentionally designed their platforms to be addictive to children.

Mosseri defends against social media addiction allegations

During his testimony over allegations about kids’ social media addiction that are supported by various other countries, Mosseri asserted that it is necessary to differentiate between clinical addiction and problematic use. He admitted that he himself had experienced a sense of addiction to a Netflix show, but argued that this was not the same as clinical addiction.

US women who suffered mental harm due to social media use

The civil petition, submitted against Meta and YouTube, primarily covers allegations that a 20-year-old woman, identified as Kaley G.M., suffered severe mental harm after becoming addicted to social media as a young child.

She started using YouTube at six and joined Instagram at 11, before moving on to Snapchat and TikTok two or three years later.

Mosseri was the first renowned Silicon Valley figure to appear before the jury to defend himself against accusations that Instagram works as a little more than a dopamine “slot machine” for young people who are prone to addiction.

Present before the jury, Mosseri also rejected the idea that Meta was motivated by a “move fast and break things” ethos that preferred profit over safety.

The trial has seen the appearance of major Silicon Valley figures, with Mosseri’s testimony preceding a more anticipated appearance of Mark Zuckerberg, currently scheduled for February 18. YouTube CEO Neil Mohan is also expected to testify on the day after.

The plaintiffs’ attorney, Mark Lanier, has accused Meta and Google of planting addiction in young people to gain users and profits, while Meta’s attorney has argued that the plaintiff’s suffering was due to her family context and could not be attributed to her use of Instagram or other social media.

How Taylor Swift ended up reuniting with ex John Mayer after public digs

Taylor Swift and John Mayer come face to face years after ‘Dear John’ release

Taylor Swift and John Mayer’s previous relationship resurfaced after they recently came face to face at Paul McCartney’s concert, years after their messy breakup.

The 36-year-old pop superstar and Mayer, 48, were both spotted at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood in pictures posted on celebrity gossip accounts on social media.

While it’s unclear if the former couple interacted, the Saturday concert outing marked their first time attending the same event ever since they broke up in 2010.

The 14-time-Grammy winner was seen talking to Olivia Rodrigo in the pictures, and her pal Sabrina Carpenter was also in attendance at the event.

Swift and Mayer also used different exits as they left the concert separately.

The Gravity hitmaker and the Eras Tour performer had a difficult break up at the time, with Swift releasing Dear John allegedly about their age-gap relationship.

After the song was released and Mayer landed in backlash, he discussed how it negatively impacted him, telling Rolling Stone, “I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”

The Opalite hitmaker slammed Mayer’s claims the same year, saying it was “presumptuous” of him to believe she wrote the song about him.

Ferne McCann reveals simple secrets behind her body transformation

Ferne has been candid about her weight loss journey and revealed last year

Ferne McCann cut a sensational figure as she posed in a tiny blue bikini after shedding two stone.

The former TOWIE star, who is a mum to daughters Sunday, eight, and Finty, two, recently shared a photo of herself, showing off her physique in before and after images, revealing the secrets behind her weight loss.

The clip began with her displaying her post-baby body in a string two-piece shortly after giving birth to her youngest daughter Finty, two.

Revealing the secret behind her weight loss, she insisted that it ‘wasn’t anything drastic’, but was the result of changing up her dietary habits.

The reality star said she made sure to stay in a calorie deficit and got enough protein, while also drinking up to 3 litres of water daily, emphasising that ‘consistency’ was the key.

Ferne penned: ‘The things that actually changed my body shape and helped me lose weight… It wasn’t anything drastic.

‘It was: Following a simple nutrition plan. Sticking to my breakfast meal replacement shake (high nutrition, low calories). Drinking 2–3L of water a day.

‘Staying in a calorie deficit. Hitting my protein target. Daily movement. Accountability (this is a big one!!! being surrounded by women doing the same as you).’

‘Nothing extreme. Nothing restrictive. Just consistency with the basics… and that’s where the results come from’, she concluded.

Ferne has been candid about her weight loss journey and revealed last year she had shed 2.5 stone after overhauling her lifestyle with a focus on nutrition and high-intensity interval training.
