PML-N’s Bilal Farooq elected unopposed in Wazirabad by-election
- Forms submitted to Election Commission for confirmation.
- Eight candidates withdrew nomination papers earlier.
- Seat fell vacant after Ahmed Chattha’s disqualification.
GUJRANWALA: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Bilal Farooq Tarar has been elected unopposed in the NA-66 Wazirabad by-election, according to officials.
The returning officer confirmed on Saturday that Tarar’s victory notification has been issued and Form-34 has been forwarded to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for formal confirmation.
The returning officer said that 30 individuals had initially submitted nomination papers for the seat.
However, eight candidates, including those from the Sunni Ittehad Council and the Pakistan Peoples Party, withdrew their nominations, while the remaining candidates retired after the withdrawal period had lapsed.
The NA-66 seat fell vacant after the Election Commission of Pakistan de-seated Punjab PTI President MNA Ahmed Chattha in the wake of his conviction in May 9 riots.
Several PTI lawmakers, including Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Zartaj Gul and others, were convicted by an anti-terrorism courts in various May 9 cases.
Thousands of supporters of PTI founder Imran Khan stormed public property and military installations, including the Corps Commander House in Lahore, on May 9, 2023, in protest against the former premier’s arrest.
The riots — in which lives were lost — erupted after the PTI founder was taken into custody from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in a graft case.
Several PTI leaders and workers were released on bail after their arrests, while many remain behind bars.

China unveils£5.4 bn Fujian, its most advanced aircraft carrier yet
China has launched its most advanced and expensive aircraft carrier till date.
The Fujian, costing £5.4 bn is an 80,000 tonne super-vessel capable of carrying about 60 aircraft. Stretching over 300 meters, the Fujian cements China’s position as the world’s second-largest carrier fleet.
Chinese president Xi Jinping, supervised the launch of the aircraft carrier marking a significant leap in Beijing’s bid to power far beyond its shores.
The carrier has been built domestically and is equipped with advanced electromagnetic catapults. The ship signifies China’s ambition to operate a truly blue-water navy, one capable of global reach and influence.
With its catapult launch system, the carrier is capable of launching heavy and fully-loaded warplanes including an early-warning and control plane.
This allows the carrier to function against distant targets while far out at sea as it does not have any dependence on land-based reconnaissance aircraft to detect threats.
Fujian is also capable of carrying more arms and fuel which strengthens its range and firepower.
Previous Chinese aircraft carriers, the Shandong and Liaoning had an upward-sloping ski jump deck which were only able to carry lighter loads and launch fighter jets with less arms.
Another major feature of Fujian is its electromagnetic catapult system which makes it the second carrier in the world with such technology.
Previously, America’s USS Gerald R. Ford had such an advanced system.
Traditionally, the carriers use steam systems rather than electromagnet ones. The steam catapults put more stress on both the aircraft and the ship, needing more maintenance, and occupies more space.

Kim Kardashian claps back at haters of ‘All’s Fair’
Kim Kardashian just called out the haters of her new Hulu legal drama All’s Fair.
Sharing a series of social media posts that both acknowledged and mocked the show’s harshest reviews the 45-year-old reality star, who plays lawyer Allura Grant in the series, posted them on her official Instagram following All’s Fair’s debut earlier in the week.
The show, created by Ryan Murphy, also stars Glenn Close, Niecy Nash-Betts, Sarah Paulson, Naomi Watts and Teyana Taylor.
It is a show about a group of women who leave a male-dominated law firm to start their own practice.
Kim began her post with a photo of herself wearing a purple fur-trimmed crop top before sharing an image of her and Ryan.
She then uploaded a screenshot of a tweet showing the show’s Rotten Tomatoes score for the show sitting at 0%, alongside a fan’s response that read: “Immediately pressed play.”
Kim then uploaded a picture featuring herself laughing with Ryan and her co-stars, before posting another tweet that read: “Some of the worst acting I’ve ever seen in my life alongside the most predictable storylines and the most ridiculous styling.”
She also attached a tweet that read, “I’m obsessed, I need 14 seasons. #AllsFair.”
Kim also included screenshots of reviews from The Hollywood Reporter and the BBC, plus an image of comedian Amy Schumer recreating their viral 2015 Time 100 Gala moment at a screening of the show.
One tweet she shared read: “All’s Fair on Hulu dares to ask the question ‘Does a show need to be good?’ And the answer is no, it doesn’t. We have legendary actresses here giving the worst performances of their careers, it takes a special kind of talent to pull that kind of inability out of them. Amazeballs.”
Kim Kardashian ended her series of post on a positive note, highlighting good feedback and captioning the photos: “Have you tuned in to the most critically acclaimed show of the year!?!?!? All’s Fair streaming now on @hulu and @disneyplus.”
