Ken Dryden, who was on the call for the “Miracle on Ice” following a Hall of Fame playing career, has died at the age of 78 after battling cancer.
Dryden won six Stanley Cups in a short eight-year career, all with the Montreal Canadiens. He is the NHL’s all-time leader in adjusted goals-against average (2.03) and goals-allowed percentage (73).
He won the Vezina Trophy, given to the top goaltender in the league, five times. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

“Ken Dryden was an exceptional athlete, but he was also an exceptional man,” Canadiens owner Geoff Molson said. “Behind the mask he was larger than life. We mourn today not only the loss of the cornerstone of one of hockey’s greatest dynasties but also a family man, a thoughtful citizen and a gentleman who deeply impacted our lives and communities across generations.
“Ken embodied the best of everything the Montreal Canadiens are about.”
“From the moment Ken Dryden joined the Montreal Canadiens as a 23-year-old rookie in 1971, he made an immediate and lasting impact on the NHL, the Canadiens franchise and the goaltending position,” added NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman. “Ken’s love for his country was evident both on and off the ice.”

GAUDREAU BROTHERS’ WIDOWS SPEAK OUT IN EMOTIONAL INTERVIEW NEARLY ONE YEAR AFTER TRAGIC DEATHS
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney posted on social media he was “deeply saddened” to hear about Dryden’s death, calling him a “public servant and inspiration.”
“Few Canadians have given more, or stood taller, for our country,” Carney said. “Ken Dryden was Big Canada. And he was Best Canada. Rest in peace.”
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1983, Dryden was 258-57-74 with a .922 save percentage, 2.24 goals-against average and 46 shutouts and went 80-32 in the playoffs.
Dryden entered the NHL in 1971 and spent just six games in the crease before making his NHL postseason debut. He and Montreal upset rival Boston in the first round and beat Chicago in the final.
He also worked at a Toronto law firm while sitting out the 1973-74 NHL season — after previously earning a law degree at Montreal’s McGill University.
Less than a year after his retirement in 1979, Dryden joined Al Michaels at the 1980 Winter Olympics where he happened to be on call for the United States’ upset against the Soviet Union.

Dryden’s voice can be heard shortly after Michaels’ infamous “Do you believe in miracles? Yes,” simply saying, “Unbelievable.”

AJ Lee returns to WWE after 10-year absence

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
AJ Lee made her long-awaited return to the WWE on Friday night.
Lee appeared on “Friday Night SmackDown” to provide some backup for her real-life husband, CM Punk, as his feud with Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch exploded over the last week.Â

Lynch cost Punk the World Heavyweight Championship at Clash in Paris last weekend and then berated him during a segment on “Monday Night Raw” earlier this week. Punk teased that he had something up his sleeve going into Friday’s show.
Punk and Lynch addressed each other in the ring.
“Becky, this is exactly the situation I wanted to avoid,” he said, “because you know and I know and everyone knows, I would never put my hands on a lady. Thankfully, I got somebody who will.”
Punk turned around and Lee’s entrance music hit. The fans in Chicago were thrown into a frenzy. Lynch was stunned as Lee made her way down to the ring.

Lee didn’t have much to say. She let her hands do most of the talking. She and Lynch scrapped in the ring before the women’s intercontinental champion scurried a way with help from her real-life husband, Seth Rollins.
Lee has not been seen in the WWE since she retired in April 2015. It was more than a year after Punk controversially left the company. Lee was involved in Women of Wrestling, a Jeanie Buss-backed promotion, but didn’t return to in-ring action.

Sources: Utd’s Onana in talks with Trabzonspor

André Onana is in talks with Trabzonspor over a potential loan move, sources have told ESPN.
The Turkish side have made contact with Manchester United about the terms of a deal.
United are willing to listen to offers for Onana after signing Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Antwerp on deadline day.
Onana, under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, has been keen to stay at the club this summer.
But the 29-year-old, who missed the entire preseason schedule with a hamstring injury, has had to watch Altay Bayindir start all three of United’s Premier League games so far this season while Lammens’ arrival is set to further reduce his prospects of regular first-team football.
Sources have told ESPN that United are comfortable with having Onana, Bayindir, Lammens and 39-year-old Tom Heaton in their goalkeeper group this season.
Onana is set to spend time away with Cameroon when the Africa Cup of Nations starts in December.

The transfer window in Turkey will remain open until Sept. 12 giving Trabzonspor, who finished seventh in the league last season, time to reach an agreement with both United and Onana.
His departure would bring to an end a mixed two-year spell at Old Trafford after arriving in an initial £ 43.8 million ($59.1m) deal from Inter Milan in 2023.
