After opening its first store in Soho, New York City in 2023, the Sporty & Rich brand is preparing to open its second store, this time in Los Angeles at 8619 Melrose Avenue, in West Hollywood.

For this second store, founder Emily Oberg has chosen one of the most prominent locations in West Hollywood, at the corner of Melrose Avenue and Huntley Drive, just a few steps from the Pacific Design Center, where design brands rent showrooms.

Closed in 2023, the former Marcell Von Berlin boutique with its bright orange facade opened in 2018 and expanded to include a coffee shop before closing its doors in early 2023 due to the death of its main investor and founder, Rainer Schaller, who died in a plane crash.

While the store’s facade is expected to change color soon, Emily Oberg and French CEO David Obadia will inherit a space of approximately 5,000 square feet, complete with a garden and coffee shop. The brand has just launched an Instagram story looking for new talent to manage the coffee section of the store.

In the midst of a retail overhaul over the past few months, this section of Melrose Avenue saw The RealReal close its men’s store at 8500 Melrose Avenue at the end of 2024, with the men’s selection now merged into the main women’s store. This was followed by the closure of the PrettyLittleThing store, whose unicorn window displays had been terrifying the entire neighborhood.

With the upcoming opening of the new Salomon store, the presence of Municipal (the brand co-founded by actor Mark Wahlberg), Hoka, Lululemon as neighbors, and the Silver Springs hot yoga studio, Sporty & Rich will anchor a new “wellness and athleisure” dynamic that perfectly matches the profile of West Hollywood residents.

Initially launched via an Instagram account and later a magazine, the Sporty & Rich brand unveiled its first clothing collection in 2018 and has seen its development accelerate over the past two years.

After opening its first boutique in New York in July 2023, the brand revealed its first collaboration with the Parisian palace Le Bristol in September. It continued this hospitality positioning with the Cap-Eden-Roc hotel in Antibes and The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel, in New York.

With more than 150 stockists worldwide, the brand has established itself in numerous prestigious locations, including The Webster concept store in the United States, Galeries Lafayette in Paris, Net-a-Porter, and Ssense e-retailers.

The brand has also launched several collaborations with Adidas and, more recently, 47 Brand, a brand specializing in licensed products from major American sports leagues. Last March, it released its first capsule collection with the successful Los Angeles Dodgers baseball team, followed by another with their rivals, the Yankees.

Further openings could be announced soon. In a previous interview with FashionNetwork, Emily Oberg revealed her desire to open new stores in London and Paris.

Mikey Madison joins Dior as global brand ambassador



French multinational luxury goods company Christian Dior has announced the appointment of Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison as its new global brand ambassador. Part of Generation Z, Madison is the first of her cohort to win an Academy Award, receiving both an Oscar and BAFTA for her breakthrough role in Sean Baker’s Anora (2024).

Madison, the first of her generation to win an acting Oscar, said she was honoured to join under Jonathan Anderson’s creative direction.
Anderson praised her empathetic talent.
Known for Anora, Better Things, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Scream, Madison brings star power to Dior.

“I’m so proud and honoured to be joining the House of Dior at the start of this next chapter under Jonathan’s creative direction. Jonathan is inspiring to me as a designer because of how he tells stories with his collections and the playfulness and originality he injects into every collection,” Dior said in a LinkedIn post quoting Madison.

“Mikey Madison is an incredibly talented actress. Her empathetic approach perfectly reflects the House of Dior, and I am extremely excited to work together,” Jonathan Anderson, creative director, added.

Madison began her career in short films before rising to prominence in FX’s Better Things (2016–2022). She gained further recognition as Susan Atkins in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Amber Freeman in Scream (2022).

CAI ups India’s 2024-25 cotton output estimate to 312.40 lakh bales



The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has further raised its cotton production estimate to 312.40 lakh bales of 170 kg each in its latest report. The industry has also released the country’s cotton balance sheet up to the end of August 2025. The current season began on October 1, 2024. In its previous monthly report, CAI had estimated production at 311.40 lakh bales. For the 2023–24 season, final production was pegged at 336.45 lakh bales.

According to CAI, the total cotton supply till the end of August 2025 is estimated at 383.03 lakh bales. This includes pressings of 307.09 lakh bales, imports of 36.75 lakh bales, and an opening stock of 39.19 lakh bales at the beginning of the season.

CAI has raised its 2024–25 cotton production estimate to 312.40 lakh bales of 170 kg each, up from 311.40 lakh bales earlier.
Total supply for the season is pegged at 392.59 lakh bales, with higher imports at 41 lakh bales.
Domestic consumption remains at 314 lakh bales, while exports are unchanged at 18 lakh bales, significantly lower than last season’s 28.36 lakh bales.

CAI has estimated cotton consumption up to the end of August 2025 at 286 lakh bales, while export shipments for the same period are pegged at 17 lakh bales. The ending stock at the end of August 2025 is projected at 80.03 lakh bales, comprising 35 lakh bales with textile mills and the remaining 45.03 lakh bales held by CCI, Maharashtra Federation, and others (MNCs, traders, ginners, exporters, etc), including cotton sold but not yet delivered.

For the entire 2024–25 cotton season (up to September 30, 2025), CAI has estimated total cotton supply at 392.59 lakh bales, up from the previous estimate of 389.59 lakh bales. This comprises the opening stock of 39.19 lakh bales, pressing of 312.40 lakh bales, and imports estimated at 41 lakh bales—significantly higher than the 15.20 lakh bales imported in the 2023–24 season.

However, CAI has maintained its estimate of domestic consumption at 314 lakh bales. Exports for the 2024–25 season are also unchanged at 18 lakh bales, compared with 28.36 lakh bales recorded in the 2023–24 season.

China’s PPI decline narrows to 2.9% as CPI falls 0.4% in August



China’s producer price index (PPI) fell 2.9 per cent year-over-year (YoY) in August, easing from July’s 3.6 per cent drop, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). The consumer price index (CPI) also reflected weakness, dipping 0.4 per cent in August compared with last year.

PPI marked the first narrowing since March, signalling a modest recovery in industrial demand amid government measures to steady growth. On a month-to-month basis, the PPI halted its decline, remaining unchanged after a 0.2 per cent fall in July. For the January–August period, producer prices were 2.9 per cent lower than a year earlier.

China’s producer price index fell 2.9 per cent YoY in August, easing from July’s 3.6 per cent drop, while remaining flat month-on-month.
Its consumer price index declined 0.4 per cent, though core CPI rose 0.9 per cent for the fourth straight month.
NBS cited proactive policies and gains in sectors like integrated circuits and shipbuilding, suggesting stabilisation in factory-gate costs.

Meanwhile, core CPI, excluding food and energy, climbed 0.9 per cent, continuing its four-month streak of gains.

NBS statistician Dong Lijuan attributed the fall in PPI to a high base in 2024 and a smaller-than-usual seasonal rise in food costs. The proactive macroeconomic policies and shifts in key industries underpinned the narrower PPI decline. Notable gains included a 1.1 per cent rise in integrated circuit packaging and testing, and a 0.9 per cent increase in shipbuilding equipment.

Rising demand for high-end consumer products also helped lift prices in selected sectors, said Chinese media outlets quoting Dong.

The data suggested that while consumer prices remain subdued, stabilisation in factory-gate costs could be an early sign of improving momentum in China’s industrial economy.
