TRENDING RUMORS
– Girona right back Arnau Martínez is on the radar of Arsenal, according to Footmercato. Martinez, 22, spent six years in the Barcelona academy before leaving in 2016 and has played his entire senior career at Girona. The Gunners are looking to strengthen their defensive depth and have reportedly made an offer of €8 million, plus €2 million in add-ons, to land the Spain U21 international.
– Manchester City women want to sign Manchester United midfielder Grace Clinton, says The Times. Clinton, 22, has entered the final year of her contract at United and is considered one of the best young players in the Women’s Super League. Persuading the England international to move across Manchester before the women’s transfer window closes on Sept. 4 would be a huge coup for City, but they have yet to make an official approach.
– Sport Bild report that Bayern Munich have reached a basic agreement with Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson. Bayern are now negotiating a deal with Chelsea, which is likely to be a loan, and the 24-year-old is considered an alternative to the permanent signing of VfB Stuttgart‘s Nick Woltemade after the two clubs failed to agree on a fee.
– Meanwhile, Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff has reached out to Chelsea for talks over RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons, as reported by Philipp Hinze. The Blues must offload players before making a formal offer to sign the 22-year-old Netherlands international and, at the moment, only a player swap including somebody like Christopher Nkunku is feasible as Leipzig are looking for a fee of €70m.
– USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah is getting closer to joining Atalanta from AC Milan, reports Nicolo Schira, who adds that he has been offered a contract that runs until 2029 with the option for an extra year. Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that the move would be worth around €25m and could allow them to sign 22-year-old Bologna midfielder Giovanni Fabbian for around €15m.

EXPERT TAKE
ESPN’s resident scout Tor-Kristian Karlsen looks at Girona right back Arnau Martínez.
The 22-year-old has been on the scouting radar of some top European clubs for a while and he has the profile of a modern, versatile full back who can adapt to several roles: from orthodox right back in a back four, to wing back, and even as a right-sided center back in a back three.
Martinez’s La Masia education is very much visible in his game as he is secure on the ball, technically assured, decent with his weaker foot, and particularly good at finding attacking passing options centrally from deep positions — indeed, his 85% accuracy in forward distribution left him second only to Barcelona’s Jules Koundé among LaLiga’s right backs last season.
Energetic and dynamic, he gets around the pitch, carries the ball well at high speed and keeps up his intensity into the closing stages of matches. Less inclined to beat an opponent in a one vs. one duel, he instead impresses with his positioning and ability to make overlapping runs. Though his crossing accuracy (26% last season) is one area of improvement, his three goals and three assists last season are testament to his efforts in attacking areas.
At 6 feet tall, he is of above-average size for a full back, but mainly relies on anticipation and reading of play rather than physicality or powerful tackles. He closes down opponents quickly and decisively, often stepping out of the defensive line for an early regain, which is a good match for a high pressing side like Arsenal. Martinez does look ready to take another step in his career, but the Gunners are more likely to consider him as a squad player than an instant regular.

Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores trophy damaged in title celebrations
The Copa Libertadores trophy won by Flamengo on Saturday was damaged during the team’s title celebrations.
Flamengo beat Palmeiras 1-0 in the final in Lima, Peru, to become the first Brazilian club to lift the prestigious cup four times.
Flamengo players and staff had a victory parade on the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Sunday afternoon, with an estimated 500,000 people joining in the celebrations.
Players and staff took turns to lift the cup during the parade and images showed that the top part of the trophy, which consists of a figurine of a footballer ready to kick a ball, was wrapped in what appeared to be masking tape.

England’s Moeen Ali announces return to PSL after four-year hiatus
Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has announced his return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying he was excited to be part of the league’s “new era”.
After the 10th edition of the PSL earlier this year, the league is set for an expansion to eight teams, with the addition of two new franchises.
Meanwhile, Moeen, who has previously featured in the marquee league when he represented former champions Multan Sultans in the 2020 and 2021 editions, expressed his eagerness to rejoin the league.
Moeen stated that the PSL, since its advent in 2016, has “earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket”, featuring close competition and talented players.
“I’m really excited to be joining HBL PSL in its New Era. The league has earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket, with high-quality competition and world-class talent across every team,” Moeen wrote on Instagram.
The 38-year-old, who represented England in 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is during his illustrious career, was also a part of the Three Lions squad that made its historic tour of Pakistan in 2022 to play a three-match Test series. Besides that, Moeen has made several visits to the country.
Reflecting on his previous experiences in Pakistan, Moeen said that he enjoyed playing in the country and specifically praised the enthusiastic crowd, which he said pushes players to give their best on the field.
“Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best,” he continued.
“I’m looking forward to being part of it all and creating some great memories along the way. Ready for another special experience Insha’Allah!”
His announcement comes just days after former South African captain Faf du Plessis pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to play in the upcoming PSL season.
In a post on Instagram on November 29, the renowned cricketer said that he would not put his name in the IPL auction this year.
“It’s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back,” he wrote in his post.
