TRENDING RUMORS
– Liverpool have sanctioned a British record £130 million move to sign Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak that will be put to the Magpies after the clubs face each other in the Premier League at St James’ Park on Monday, claims The Sun. The Reds are confident this will lead to Newcastle letting the 25-year-old leave after he put out a statement on Instagram on Tuesday claiming that promises had been broken, though that hasn’t been well received by the club and the Daily Mail suggests Newcastle’s stance may even have hardened. Liverpool also want to sign Crystal Palace center back Marc Guéhi for £35m before the end of the window.
– Manchester City have reached an agreement in principle with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on a contract that will run until 2030, as reported by Nicolo Schira. City are now working to reach a deal that would allow them to sign the 26-year-old from Les Parisiens, who have left the door open to a departure but want a fee of around €50m. Talks will advance as soon as Ederson leaves the Etihad, with the Brazil international having agreed personal terms with Galatasaray.
– Chelsea are advancing in talks to sign Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, says Fabrizio Romano, as there is an excellent relationship between Man United CEO Omar Berrada and Chelsea’s hierarchy. The 21-year-old only wants to join Chelsea and has turned down an approach from Bayern Munich in the last 48 hours. There is no chance of him joining the Bavarians, but Man United are holding out for a fee of around £50m.
– Atalanta are looking at AC Milan and USMNT midfielder Yunus Musah, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport, which adds that new boss Ivan Juric wants to sign a versatile midfielder. It would take a €25m bid to land the 22-year-old, with Napoli having offered a similar amount when they showed interest earlier in the window. Nottingham Forest have also made enquiries and spoke to Musah but never made an impactful offer. Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri reportedly likes the player, but already has plenty of options in midfield.
– Brazilian club Palmeiras have already made a huge amount of money from letting young talents like Endrick, Estêvão and Vitor Reis leave in recent years, and 19-year-old center back Luiz Benedetti could be next. Sport claims that Barcelona, Arsenal and Napoli have all been in contact over the player, who has an Italian passport. Standing 6-foot-6 tall, Benedetti is an imposing figure and is able to dominate at both ends of the pitch.
CONFIRMED DEALS
– Aston Villa winger Leon Bailey has completed a loan move to Roma, while the Serie A club can make the deal permanent for €20m.

Will Newcastle be forced to accept a lower transfer fee for Isak?
Rob Dawson assesses Alexander Isak’s hopes of leaving Newcastle in the summer transfer window.
ESPN’s Beth Lindop on what the future holds for Alexander Isak.
Isak’s future has been the saga of the summer and it shows no sign of reaching a resolution any time soon.
The Sweden international took matters into his own hands on Tuesday night by releasing a sensational statement, prompting Newcastle to issue public response of their own. While the Tyneside club remain steadfast in their desire not to sanction the player’s exit, the wording of their statement was perhaps less unequivocal than expected, noting that they “do not foresee” the conditions of a transfer being met.
That opens the door for Liverpool to return to the negotiating table with an improvement on their initial £110m bid. The Premier League champions’ interest in Isak remains, although they would have to be given encouragement from Newcastle to bid again.
While the fan response to Isak’s situation is rooted in emotion, football is ultimately a business and, should Liverpool return with a suitable offer, Newcastle may start to feel it is one they cannot refuse.

20 charged in college hoops point-shaving plot
Twenty men have been charged in a point-shaving scheme involving more than 39 college basketball players on more than 17 NCAA Division I teams, leading to more than 29 games being fixed, according to a federal indictment unsealed Thursday in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Fifteen of the defendants played college basketball during the 2023-24 and/or 2024-25 seasons, according to the indictment. Some have played this season. Two of the players named in the indictment, Cedquavious Hunter and Dyquavian Short, were sanctioned in November by the NCAA for fixing New Orleans games.
At least two of the defendants, Shane Hennen and Marves Fairley, were also charged in a federal indictment in the Eastern District of New York centered on gambling schemes in the NBA.
Former NBA player Antonio Blakeney was named but not charged in the indictment. The indictment describes Blakeney as being “charged elsewhere.”
The scheme, according to the indictment, began around September 2022 and initially was focused on fixing games in the Chinese Basketball Association. The group later targeted college basketball games, offering bribes to college players ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 to compromise games for betting purposes, according to the indictment.
“In placing these wagers on games they had fixed, the defendants defrauded sportsbooks, as well as individual sports bettors, who were all unaware that the defendants had corruptly manipulated the outcome of these games that should have been decided fairly, based on genuine competition and the best efforts of the players,” the indictment said.

3 Pro Bowl players named finalists for NFL’s Salute to Service Award
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
USAA on Thursday announced the three finalists for the NFL’s Salute to Service Award, and a dynasty in San Francisco could be on the rise.
After 49ers star George Kittle took home the award last year, Christian McCaffrey is among three finalists for the league’s award, along with Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson and Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones as the finalists — Jones was a finalist last year, as well.
“The finalists for the 15th Annual Salute to Service Award presented by USAA have used their platforms to be exceptional advocates for the military community, reminding us that service doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off,” Maj. Gen. (Ret.) Bob Whittle, Senior Vice President and Head of Military Affairs at USAA, said in a release.

“The NFL and USAA applaud Jake Ferguson, Aaron Jones, and Christian McCaffrey as deserving finalists who have demonstrated exactly what the award stands for — using the power of football to connect with, empower, appreciate and uplift our service members, veterans and their families.”
McCaffrey launched 23 and Troops in 2021 to focus on post-traumatic stress and athlete-level care for veterans. The foundation has raised $700,000 for military support and paid off holiday layaway for 515 military families.

Ferguson has partnered with USAA to visit local military bases and supported the National Medal of Honor Museum, including an event in 2024 in which 900 students joined in person and thousands more virtually.
Jones grew up in a military household. His father, Alvin, served 29 years in the Army, while his mother, Vurgess, served for 27. Jones’ older brother, Xavier, serves in the Air Force. Jones and his twin brother, Alvin Jr., founded the A&A All the Way Foundation in 2020 to support the youth of military families.
The winner will be announced at NFL Honors in San Francisco on Feb. 5, the same night the MVP, Offensive and Defensive Players and Rookies, and Coach of the Year will be crowned.
