Vivek Chaturvedi, IRS, has been appointed Chairman of Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs, succeeding Sanjay Kumar Agarwal.

Vivek Chaturvedi, IRS, has been appointed as the Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC). Chaturvedi takes over as CBIC Chairman, succeeding Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, who retired on November 28, 2025.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Vivek Chaturvedi, IRS(C&IT:1990), Member, Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs to the post of Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC), in an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Vivek Chaturvedi was earlier elevated as Member, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs in September.
The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is India’s apex body responsible for administering indirect taxes, including GST, customs duties and central excise. It works under the Ministry of Finance and oversees policy formulation, tax collection, enforcement, and trade facilitation across the country.
