England bowler Chris Woakes retires from international cricket – SUCH TV
Paceman Chris Woakes on Monday announced his retirement from international cricket after England indicated he was no longer in their plans.
Woakes’s final match was last month against India at the Oval, where he walked out to bat one-handed with his arm in a sling, having dislocated his shoulder in the field.
He did not face a ball in his short time at the crease as India won by six runs to level the series at 2-2.
That injury ruled him out of consideration for the upcoming Ashes tour to Australia and, at the age of 36, effectively brought down the curtain on his England career.
Woakes, who made his Test debut for England in 2013, took 192 wickets in 62 games and scored more than 2,000 runs at an average of 25.
He also featured in 33 T20 internationals and 122 one-day internationals, playing a key role as England won the 2019 World Cup.
Rob Key, managing director of men’s cricket at the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), said last week that Woakes was unlikely to feature again, and the all-rounder has opted to call time on his international career.
“The moment has come, and I’ve decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket,” he wrote in an Instagram post. He also shared the same message on his X account.
“Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams.
“Representing England, wearing the Three Lions and sharing the field with team-mates over the last 15 years, many of whom have become lifelong friends, are things I’ll look back on with the greatest pride.”
The Warwickshire bowler said he looked forward to continuing to play the county game and exploring opportunities in franchise cricket.
Key paid a warm tribute to Woakes.
“Chris Woakes is one of the finest people to have played the game,” he said. “An extraordinary career carved out alongside two of England’s greatest-ever bowlers (James Anderson and Stuart Broad).
“A man who helped every team he played in, even before he walked onto the field.”
ECB chairman Richard Thompson described Woakes as a “gentleman off the field, with the skills and fierce determination to win on it”.
“The images of Chris walking out to bat with his arm in a sling to try and win a Test match this summer reflected how much he cared about playing for his country and being the best team-mate he could be,” he said.
England face Australia in the first Test of the five-match Ashes, in Perth on November 21.

Rubiales charged at the man, but several others stepped in to restrain him.
Spanish police told The Associated Press that the man, identified as Luis Rubén Rubiales, was arrested. No motive was immediately revealed. The suspect was Rubiales’ uncle and a local actor.
“A man entered who I later saw was my uncle, who is a troubled man, and always has been,” Rubiales told reporters, via the AP. “He had some eggs and threw some at me, but I didn’t know what he had in his hands, and when I first saw him I thought he might be carrying a weapon.”

EX-SPANISH SOCCER PRESIDENT RECEIVES FINE OVER UNWANTED KISS OF FEMALE PLAYER
In February, Rubiales was found guilty of sexually assaulting Spanish soccer player Jenni Hermoso after he kissed her without her consent following the Women’s World Cup final in 2023. The controversy overshadowed Spain’s title and led to Rubiales’ resignation just weeks later.
Despite prosecutors seeking prison time, Rubiales was ordered to pay a fine and was prohibited from being near or communicating with Hermoso for a year.

The 48-year-old former soccer chief has denied kissing Hermoso without her consent. According to its publisher, Rubiales says he was the victim of a “conspiracy of different powers of Spanish public life” including the government and “the profitable world of feminism.”

Apple scrapping MLS Season Pass service in ’26
Fans of Major League Soccer will no longer need an Apple TV Season Pass to watch matches in the 2026 season.
On Thursday, Apple TV announced it will make all MLS matches available to viewers with an existing Apple TV account.
Viewers will be able to access all regular-season matches, Leagues Cup tournament, the MLS All-Star Game, Campeones Cup and MLS Cup Playoffs with a standalone Apple TV subscription.
The MLS Season Pass as an additional package within Apple TV will officially conclude at the end of the 2025 season.
The move comes after the league announced that the 2025 MLS Cup playoffs would be accessible to all Apple TV subscribers. MLS also made over 200 regular-season matches available to Apple TV subscribers, including all Sunday Night Soccer games, which allowed the league to see an increase in viewership and move toward the recent shift.
“Apple will ultimately decide what the distribution will be. We’re finishing up Year 3 and having it on Apple TV so that it’s distributed to a broader audience during our playoffs I think is a positive,” MLS commissioner Don Garber said in October. “And we’ll take a step back with Apple and figure out what the future distribution is.”
MLS will join Formula 1 within the overarching Apple TV catalogue, after it was announced that Apple TV signed an exclusive five-year deal to be the broadcaster of F1 in the United States starting in 2026,
Major League Baseball also has a deal with Apple TV to allow subscribers access to Friday Night Baseball without an additional cost.

Babar Azam ends two-year drought with record ton
Star Pakistan batter Babar Azam ended his two-year century drought with a brilliant ton against Sri Lanka in the second one-day international (ODI) against Sri Lanka at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Friday.
The former Pakistan captain’s 32nd in international cricket comes after a gap of two years, two months and 15 days.
The star batter brought up the much-anticipated century off 115 balls when he pulled Pramod Madushan for a single.
Babar, who last made an international century during the ACC Men’s Asia Cup match against Nepal in 2023, had been unable to convert his starts into a big knock.
The 31-year-old scored multiple half-centuries across formats during the drought, but was unable to breach the 100-run barrier.
In the first ODI of the ongoing home series against Sri Lanka earlier this week, Babar showed glimpses of brilliance until Wanindu Hasaranga cleaned him up with a googly.
His 29-run knock stretched his wait for an international century, having gone 83 innings without amassing the milestone across formats, and thus drew level with Indian counterpart Kohli on the list of batters with the most innings without scoring an international century, led by Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya.
However, his 84th international innings since his last international century turned out to be a lucky charm for him as he finally reached the milestone after a wait of 807 days.
The drought-ending century was Babar’s 32nd in international cricket and 20th in ODIs. He has scored nine tons in Tests, while three in T20Is. Coupled with 32 centuries, the right-handed batter also has 104 half-centuries to his name across formats.
Babar has also equalled the record for most ODI centuries for Pakistan.
By scoring a century against Sri Lanka, Babar Azam matched Saeed Anwar’s national record.
Anwar scored 20 centuries in 244 innings, while Babar now has 20 centuries in 136 innings.
