Kane: UCL ‘suits me’ better than Bundesliga
Harry Kane has said the Champions League offers more opportunities to score than the Bundesliga after bagging two goals in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Chelsea on Wednesday.
The England star tucked away a penalty after he was brought down by Moisés Caicedo, then capitalised on teammates’ pressure on Malo Gusto when the ball fell kindly for him to fire inside the far post.
“I always feel like in the Champions League you create maybe more chances than the Bundesliga, the games are maybe a bit more open, and that suits me,” Kane told broadcaster DAZN.
“Hopefully I can get more than 11 this year,” he added, referring to his tally in the Champions League last season.
The 32-year-old has already scored nine goals in five games across all competitions for Bayern so far this season — 10 goals in six games including the German Supercup.
“It’s always the aim to improve and get better,” Kane said.
Bayern got the scoring underway when Michael Olise forced an own goal from Trevoh Chalobah and might have scored more against a Chelsea team that seemed to fizzle out of energy the longer the game went on.
Cole Palmer responded to Kane’s first goal with a brilliant finish of his own and he also produced a smart finish to beat Manuel Neuer late on, but that score was chalked off for offside after a VAR review.
Otherwise, the visitors had little to cheer after a summer of intense transfer activity, with Bayern getting its third straight win over Chelsea since the clubs met in the 2012 Champions League final when the visitors upset the hosts in Munich.
“Top performance against a really good side,” Kane said.
“We spoke before the game that we were playing the club world champions and we had to be on it from the start, and we were.”

Kane said Bayern’s work off-the-ball was key to forcing mistakes from Enzo Maresca’s team.
“I think with the ball possession, making angles, helping each other. You saw me and Serge [Gnabry] drop in quite a lot to make it difficult for them to press. They were always kind of minus one and as the game went on, I felt like they got more tired, the spaces opened up and we were able to exploit that.”
Kane’s second goal came directly from Bayern’s pressure.
“We talk a lot about when the other teams try and play, you know we’re always two or three seconds away from having a chance ourselves,” he said.
“You saw that with the pressure and you saw that throughout the whole game. There were opportunities that we had when we won the ball back quickly, so yeah, it kind of fell to me in a nice place and it was a good finish.”
Kane made way in stoppage time for Nicolas Jackson — who is loan from Chelsea — to face his parent club.
The Senegal forward tried an ambitious effort from distance that drifted wide in the little time he had to make an impact.

Seahawks star rookie Nick Emmanwori downplays ankle sprain suffered during Super Bowl practice: ‘I’ll be good’
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Injury news during Super Bowl week is never what a team wants to see, but the Seattle Seahawks are dealing with it after standout cornerback Nick Emmanwori suffered an ankle sprain during practice on Wednesday.
Emmanwori, though, isn’t missing his first crack at a Super Bowl ring in his first NFL season.
“Feel good,” he told reporters Thursday during a Super Bowl media availability. “Training staff has a good plan for me… I’ll be good to go.”

The injury occurred when Emmanwori was defending a pass during practice, rolling the ankle that resulted in a sprain. Luckily, it was a low-ankle sprain, as a high-ankle would be much harder to play on.
Emmanwori walked off the practice field on his own, with teammates and coaches coming to his side as reinforcement.

Head coach Mike Macdonald said on Wednesday that the team will “kind of go from here and figure out what are the next steps.”
A potential Defensive Rookie of the Year, Emmanwori has been a crucial piece for the NFL’s top defense this season. The 35th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft started 11 of his 14 games during his rookie year, tallying 81 tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception.
What has made Emmanwori great in his inaugural season is his versatility, being able to fly around the field in both run and pass situations. Emmanwori broke up 11 passes this year.

In the event Emmanwori can’t go on Sunday, or is having trouble playing to the best of his abilities, Ty Okada could slot in at the nickel for Seattle.
Emmanwori isn’t the only Seahawks’ player dealing with something this week despite the time off. Quarterback Sam Darnold has been nursing an oblique injury throughout the playoffs, but Macdonald said he was “right on schedule” with where he needs to be for Sunday’s game at Levi’s Stadium.
Darnold was also dealing with the oblique issue when he threw for three touchdowns in the NFC Championship Game victory over the Los Angeles Rams to reach the Super Bowl.

Monaco drop Paul Pogba from Champions League squad – sources
Monaco have dropped Paul Pogba from their Champions League squad for the knockout stages in order to make room for their January new signings, sources have told ESPN.
Pogba, who will turn 33 next month, has not played since the start of December and has only featured three times this season for the club — a pair of five minute cameos against Rennes and PSG in November and again off the bench against Brest.
The France international joined Monaco in June after an 18-month doping ban and initially struggled for fitness, before minor thigh problems and an ankle injury further ruled him out.
He now is recovering from a calf injury he picked up in early December — which he is due back from in the next few days.

– Arne Slot: Liverpool’s new signing Jérémy Jacquet ‘a very big talent’
Monaco signed Simon Adingra and Wout Faes in the January transfer window and they want them both involved for the Champions League playoff games against PSG later this month.
The pair are likely to be starters, which won’t be the case for Pogba.

England captain Stokes suffers facial injury after being hit by ball
LONDON: England Test captain Ben Stokes has suffered a severe facial injury after being struck by a cricket ball.
The 34-year-old all-rounder posted a picture on Instagram showing his right eye heavily swollen and bruised, a graze on his cheek and lip, and a bandage stuffed in his nose.
“You should see the state of the cricket ball,” read Stokes’ caption of the picture, alongside a laughing face emoji.
Stokes is back in England following a woeful Ashes tour, which ended with a 4-1 series loss to Australia last month.
Although Stokes has made it clear he wants to continue to captain the red-ball side, his position remains uncertain amid an England and Wales Cricket Board review.
England coach Brendon McCullum has labelled some of the ensuing fall-out from the Ashes “out of order”.
Stokes is no longer a member of England’s white-ball set-up and won´t feature in the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka that starts this weekend.
He could next play for Durham in the early rounds of the County Championship before England begin their home Test season against New Zealand at Lord´s on June 4 — Stokes’s 35th birthday.
Stokes is currently recovering from an adductor injury suffered during the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney in January.
The injury prevented him from bowling in Australia´s second innings and completed a frustrating tour for the England skipper, who bowled well throughout the series but struggled with the bat.
Stokes’ groin problem is the latest of several injuries that have blighted his career.
In 2024, he tore his hamstring twice and he finished last season’s home series against India on the sidelines due to a shoulder problem, having undergone an operation in late 2023 to deal with knee issues.
Stokes is contracted by England until the end of the 2027 home season summer and he may now avoid entering next month’s auction for the Hundred, leaving him free to focus on the Test team.
