Nine terrorists killed in three-day operation in KP’s Upper Dir

- Five militant bodies recovered, search for others continues: SSP.
- Two civilians killed, 10 security personnel injured in clashes.
- Police, Elite Force, Rapid Response Force participate in action.
At least nine militants linked to Fitna al-Khawarij were killed during a joint operation conducted by police and the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Upper Dir district, a senior superintendent police (SSP) said on Monday.
Speaking to Geo News, SSP Syed Muhammad Bilal, the operation against Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists was continued for three consecutive days in an area of nearly 20 square kilometres.
“Five bodies of terrorists have been recovered and a search is continuing for others,” said SSP Bilal.
“The weather is bad here as it is raining, and this area consists of forests and tops, which is the reason the clearance operation is taking time.”
Personnel of the police, elite force, and rapid response force took part in the operation conducted in multiple areas, including Hill Top, Dobando Dara, Masala Banda, Shandal Bagh, Itan Dara, Bagh Kale, Sanger, and Shandal Bagh.
During the clashes, two civilians lost their lives, while 10 personnel of police and CTD sustained injuries, the SSP added.
Pakistan witnessed a surge in terror activities, particularly in its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan provinces since 2021.
In May this year, Pakistan saw a slight uptick in militant attacks even as heightened military tensions with neighbouring India failed to trigger a significant escalation in violence from extremist groups.
According to a report released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based think tank, the country witnessed 78 terrorist attacks during the month of June, which resulted in at least 100 deaths.
Among the fatalities were 53 security personnel, 39 civilians, six militants, and two members of local peace committees.
A total of 189 people were injured, including 126 members of the security forces and 63 civilians.
Altogether, the violence and operations led to 175 deaths in June — among them, 55 security personnel, 77 militants, 41 civilians, and two peace committee members.
The security forces, along with the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) have been carrying out operations against the terrorists and even launched a targeted action against militants in KP’s Bajaur.
Earlier this month, the forces had also gunned down 47 Indian-backed terrorists, attempting to infiltrate from Afghanistan, during separate operations in Balochistan’s Zhob district.

Duchess of Edinburgh plays the hero amid family ‘soap opera’ involving senior royals, Harry, Meghan

Sophie has risen to the occasion amid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s the ongoing conflict with senior royal members.
Sean Smith, who is an author of Sophie: Saving the Royal Family, which came out in July of this year, opened up about the Duchess of Edinburgh’s professional integrity and work commitment in a talk with GB News.
Mr Smith said that most of the prominent members of the monarchy are embroiled in a feud with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex that has undermined the focus on meaningful work but a strong sense of responsibility in Sophie is not letting her deviate from what truly matters amid serious tensions in the Royal Family.
The author of Meghan Misunderstood said, “The media has been and continues to be obsessed with the family drama involving Harry, Meghan, William, Kate and Charles. It’s a soap opera.”
“(Meanwhile) Sophie (has been) comforting women and children refugees,” he noted.
For those unaware, the Duchess of Edinburgh has been putting in efforts to eradicate se*ual abuse against women in war zones for over ten years.
In 2019, she visited Kosovo and South Sudan to promote justice for victims as the Countess of Wessex before becoming the Duchess of Edinburgh in 2023 to promote justice for victims.
In April 2024, Sophie became the first member of the Royal Family who travelled to Ukraine, where she met President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska and made efforts to end wartime se*xual violence.

New Meghan Markle show falls flat as expert says royal drama can’t be repeated

A PR expert said that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s hit Netflix documentary was successful because it gave people an inside look at why they left the Royal family.
Speaking with The Express, PR expert Edward Coram-James said he believes the public’s interest was mainly about the drama surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s royal exit.
And that kind of story can only be told once, he noted, hinting at the reason why Meghan’s series With Love, Meghan, failed to grab similar views.
According to Coram-James, once the story about leaving the monarchy has been told, it is hard to keep the same level of public interest.
He said, “The success of the Harry & Meghan doc was built on a finite resource: the public’s insatiable curiosity about their decision to leave the royal family and the drama surrounding it.
“It was a one-time, explosive event,” the expert added.
“They pulled back the curtain on the monarchy, and that is a story you can only tell once.”
