Princess Anne’s unveiling of King Charles portrait casts spotlight on William
King Charles’s image in traditional Highland dress has taken on new symbolism after a portrait of the monarch was unveiled at the Scottish Parliament this week.
The portrait, captured by photographer Millie Pilkington in the sunken garden at Balmoral Castle last autumn, shows the King wearing the King Charles III tartan and holding a handcrafted stick gifted by the Mey Highland Games.
The painting was unveiled by Princess Anne, who smiled as she pulled away the covering.
The image will hang beside a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which Anne also revealed in 2011.
Royal supporters praised Charles’ embrace of Scottish tradition, noting his long history of donning kilts at official engagements.
But the unveiling has once again drawn attention to William, the Prince of Wales, who despite holding several Scottish titles has consistently chosen conventional suits over Highland dress.
The kilt, seen by many as a powerful symbol of Scottish heritage and royal connection to the Highlands, now takes on added weight with the King’s likeness immortalized in it.
Whether his heir will ever follow suit remains an open question.

King Charles gets emotional, moved to tears: Buckingham Palace shares photos
King Charles and Queen Camilla got emotional and moved to tears by a 105-year-old veteran during Windsor remembrance reception.
According to a report by the GB News, the monarch and Second World War veteran Yanvar Abbas shared a hug during a veterans’ reception at Windsor Castle.
He gave a surprise address to the king and queen, thanking them for attending the VJ Day event despite the ongoing cancer treatment for the monarch, and it appeared to move the couple to tears.
Abbas had already met King Charles and Queen Camilla at a service of remembrance in Staffordshire earlier this year.
Following his emotional meeting with King Charles, the veteran said, “I told him, ‘We can’t go on meeting like this.’”
“I was very much looking forward to meeting him again.
“I have a lot of respect for His Majesty, not just as a monarch, but as a human being.
“It’s wonderful to meet him and to know that he is improving, because I had cancer and I got rid of it. I’ve been rid of it for 15 years now.”
Later, the palace shared photos of King Charles with the veterans and said, “This evening on Armistice Day, The King and Queen, joined by The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess of Gloucester, spent time with extraordinary veterans who served in the Second World War in the Pacific.”
It further said, “This year marked the 80th anniversary of VJ Day, which in effect brought World War 2 to an end.”

Sarah Ferguson ready to expose Diana’s personal letters on ‘disastrous’ Charles’ marriage
Sarah Ferguson is set to betray King Charles as she is planning to sell Princess Diana’s letters in which she wrote about her “disastrous” marriage.
According to New Idea Magazine, the former Duchess of York has kept the letters for years and sees them as a valuable asset that could make her a lot of money if sold.
Now that she and her former husband Andrew has been ordered to vacate their royal residence, the Royal Lodge, the insider said she is worried about money and may sell the letters.
“Fergie’s long hoarded correspondence from Diana, with some letters containing vivid details about her disastrous marriage to Charles,” the insider told the publication
“Anything related to Diana can fetch a fortune. The treasure-trove of letters from Diana is Fergie’s secret weapon,” they added.
The insider also suggested she might write a tell-all book, similar to Prince Harry’s Spare, to boost her finances.
“She’s freaking out right now, but it won’t take her long to start plotting her next move,” added the insider.
“Fergie and Andrew have got nothing further to lose, so if they need to sell out the royal family, don’t be surprised if they do it.”
