Rizwan, Salman steady Pakistan after middle-order collapse in Dhaka Test
Muhammad Rizwan and Agha Salman anchored Pakistan’s recovery effort, putting together a crucial 119-run stand for the sixth wicket after Green Shirts suffered a dramatic collapse against Bangladesh in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Pakistan had slumped from 210-1 to 230-5 before Rizwan and Salman steadied the innings. Salman remained unbeaten on 55, while Rizwan was dismissed by Taijul Islam shortly before rain interrupted play.
At tea, Pakistan were 349-6, still trailing by 64 runs, with weather conditions forcing an early break in play.
Earlier in the day, the Green Shirts resumed at an overnight score of 179-1 with two debutants Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal at the crease and suffered the second blow when the former was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed.
Awais, however, completed his century and etched his name in the history of Test cricket by smashing a ton on his debut.
Captain Shan Mosood (9), Saud Shakeel (0) and Fazal (60) also perished in quick succession, leaving the visitors 230-5 before the Rizwan-Salman provided the recovery.
Pakistan, ended the second day’s play, comfortably by scoring 179-1 in 46 overs, with Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal unbeaten on 85 and 37 runs respectively.
Openers Imam-ul-Haq and Awais began their innings positively, finding the boundary early and building a composed foundation to ease pressure after Bangladesh’s imposing total score.
Earlier, Mohammad Abbas produced a five-wicket haul to bowl out the hosts for 413 in the 118th over early in the second session as Pakistan continued to chip away with disciplined seam bowling.
Litton Das was the first wicket on day two, dismissed by Abbas for 33 off 67 balls, hitting five boundaries. Mushfiqur Rahim held firm and brought up his 29th Test half-century, setting the tone for early breakthroughs on the second morning session.
Bangladesh lost wickets as Abbas removed Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 10 off 12 balls with one four and a six, then Taijul Islam for 17 off 23 balls with two fours, leaving 378-7 in 106.5 overs.
After lunch, Shaheen Afridi hit the stumps to end Mushfiqur Rahim’s 71 off 179 balls with eight boundaries, halting his resistance after a composed and patient knock.
Abbas completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Ebadot Hossain for a duck, reducing Bangladesh to 384-9 in 110.5 overs.
Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana added useful runs, with Taskin striking a six off Abbas to take Bangladesh past 400 in the 115th over, putting pressure on the lower order.
Shaheen Afridi eventually wrapped up the innings by removing Taskin Ahmed for 28 off 19 balls with three fours and a six, ending a 29-run stand.
Mohammad Abbas finished with 5/92 in 34 overs, while Shaheen took three wickets. Hasan Ali and Noman Ali claimed one each.
On day one, Bangladesh dominated through skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque, frustrating Pakistan’s attack across three sessions. Shaheen Afridi removed Mahmudul Hasan Joy for eight off 19 balls with two boundaries.
Hasan Ali then dismissed Shadman Islam for 13 off 30 balls, leaving Bangladesh at 31-2 in 10.1 overs before Mominul and Najmul Hossain rebuilt the innings strongly with a composed partnership.
Shanto reached his sixth Test fifty while Mominul brought up his 26th, with the stand crossing 100 runs and pushing Bangladesh beyond 200. He scored his ninth Test century before Abbas dismissed him for 101 off 130 balls with 12 fours and two sixes.
By tea, Bangladesh were 201-3 from 52.2 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim then joined Mominul, adding a partnership that took Bangladesh past 250.
Noman Ali removed Mominul for 91 off 200 balls with 10 boundaries. Rahim remained unbeaten with Litton Das as Bangladesh crossed 300 in the 84th over, ending day one and providing a solid platform for the remainder of the match situation going forward in the Test context.

Bobby Cox, legendary Atlanta Braves manager who led 1995 World Series champions, dead at 84
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Famed Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox has died at the age of 84, the team announced on Saturday.
The Braves said in a statement that their “treasured skipper” was the “best manager to ever wear a Braves uniform.”
His Braves managerial legacy will never be matched. Bobby was a favorite among all in the baseball community, especially those who played for him. His wealth of knowledge on player development and the intricacies of managing the game were rewarded with the sport’s ultimate prize in 2014 – enshrinement into the Baseball Hall of Fame,” the Braves said.

“And while Bobby’s passion for the game was unparalleled, his love of baseball was exceeded only by his love for his family. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we send our sincerest condolences to his beloved wife, Pam, and their loving children and grandchildren.”
Cox’s 2,504 wins as a manager are the fourth-most in MLB history, behind only Connie Mack, Tony La Russa and John McGraw.
Cox has two stints with the Braves, the first of which began in 1978 and ended three years later. After managing the Toronto Blue Jays from 1982 to 1985, he returned to Atlanta for the 1990 season, where he stayed for 21 seasons.

He was named the Manager of the Year four times and was one of two managers, along with Kevin Cash, to win it in back-to-back seasons. His No. 6 was retired by the Braves in 2011, shortly after his final season with the club.
Cox was the first-base coach for the New York Yankees when they won the World Series in 1977, but he was of course much better known for the world title that was brought to Atlanta in 1995.
During his second stint with Atlanta, he led the team to 14 division titles and making each postseason from 1991 to 2005 (there was no postseason in the strike-shortened 1994 season, but the Braves were 68-46 and in second place behind the Montreal Expos).

The Braves made five World Series under Cox, who also held the MLB record for most ejections.
He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014.

First Test: Abbas strikes thrice, Rahim stands firm for Bangladesh at lunch
Mohammad Abbas picked up all three wickets to fall in the morning session, but Mushfiqur Rahim’s resilience ensured Bangladesh reached 380-7 at lunch on Day 2 in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.
Resuming at 301-4, Bangladesh lost Litton Das for 33 as Abbas struck early to reduce the hosts to 338-5. The experienced pacer then struck again to remove Mehidy Hasan Miraz for 10, further slowing the scoring.
Abbas completed his three-wicket haul just before the lunch interval, dismissing Taijul Islam for 17.
Despite wickets falling at regular intervals, Rahim anchored the innings with a composed and controlled knock, keeping Bangladesh steady under pressure. At lunch, he was unbeaten on 71 alongside Ebadot Hossain, who had yet to score.
Bangladesh had dominated the opening day after being asked to bat first, finishing at 301-4 in 85 overs.
Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a commanding 101 off 130 balls, while Mominul Haque added a fluent 91 off 200 deliveries. The pair stitched together a crucial 170-run partnership after early wickets from Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali reduced Bangladesh to 31-2.
Pakistan’s bowlers shared the wickets, but struggled with consistency and discipline, conceding 31 extras across the innings.
