Ace Frehley, Kiss’ original lead guitarist, dies at 74

Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist and founding member of the glam rock band Kiss, died on Thursday, his family and agent said. He was 74.

Frehley died peacefully surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, following a recent fall, his agent told The Associated Press.

Family members said in a statement to AP that they are “completely devastated and heartbroken” but will cherish his laughter and celebrate the kindness he bestowed upon others.

Frehley’s former Kiss bandmates, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, said in a statement that they were “devastated” by Frehley’s passing.

“He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history,” the two said. “He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy. Our thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.”

Frehley was recovering from a “minor fall” that forced him to cancel a scheduled performance in late September, his tour manager, John Ostrosky, also known as John Ostronomy, said in a Facebook post last month addressed to fans. Doctors advised Frehley not to travel following his fall, Ostrosky said.

Born in 1951 in the Bronx, Frehley grew up surrounded by music and received his first electric guitar as a Christmas present in 1964.

Frehley co-founded Kiss in 1973 alongside Stanley, Simmons and Peter Criss. He played on many of Kiss’ classic albums, including “Destroyer,” “Rock and Roll Over” and “Love Gun.” Today, Kiss has more gold albums than any other American band and has sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Kiss, whose hits include “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “Detroit Rock City,” was known for its intense stage shows, which included fireworks, smoke and eruptions of fake blood performed by band members in black-and-white painted faces, platform boots and black wigs.

He later released his first solo album, “Ace Frehley,” in 1978, and his song “New York Groove” quickly became a hit. After leaving Kiss in 1982, he formed the band Frehley’s Comet and later continued recording under his own name.

In 1996, Frehley rejoined Kiss for their 1996 reunion tour but left again in the early 2000s. The band continued with replacement members wearing the Frehley and Criss makeup and costumes. Kiss performed a farewell tour in 2023.

Frehley and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

Renée Zellweger joins cast of ‘A Woman in the Sun’

Renée Zellweger is set to lead the cast of the upcoming feature film A Woman in the Sun, joining forces with fellow Academy Award winner Sissy Spacek and rising star Mia Threapleton.

The project will see Zellweger take on the role of Claire Keating, a bartender on Nantucket whose life is upended when her mother falls ill and her daughter moves back home.

Written and directed by Julia Cox, the film explores the struggles of the island’s shrinking middle class as Claire is forced to confront her past and take charge of her future.

The film marks a significant directorial debut for Cox, who previously earned acclaim for writing the Oscar-nominated Nyad.

Zellweger, who is also producing the project through her Big Picture Co. banner, described the script as a “storytelling treasure” and expressed her excitement about championing Cox as an emerging filmmaker.

Production is scheduled to begin this September, with the project set to be introduced to international buyers during the Cannes Film Festival.

The cast brings together an impressive amount of industry talent. Zellweger, a two-time Oscar winner, recently returned to her iconic role in the latest Bridget Jones film, Mad About the Boy

She is joined by Spacek, a six-time nominee and winner for Coal Miner’s Daughter, and Threapleton, who has been making waves in projects for directors like Wes Anderson and Damien Chazelle.

Rihanna embraces new tattoo given by children

Rihanna embraces new tattoo given by children

Rihanna has just added a deeply personal piece to her famous tattoo collection, choosing a design created by her three young children.

The singer’s go-to tattoo artist, Bang Bang, also known as Keith McCurdy, shared a look at the sentimental new ink on Instagram this Friday, revealing that the Umbrella star had her kids’ scribbles meticulously tattooed onto the back of her knee.

The artwork was taken directly from a piece of paper decorated with Paw Patrol stickers, which McCurdy used as his reference to recreate the childhood doodles with total precision.

The 38-year-old superstar, who recently welcomed her third child, was seen in social media clips looking relaxed in a black hoodie and sunglasses as McCurdy got to work.

Rihanna shares her three children, sons RZA and Riot, and eight-month-old daughter Rocki, with her partner A$AP Rocky.

Fans have already flooded the comments to praise the “heartwarming” choice, with many noting how precious it will be for her to look back on as the children grow up.

This latest addition joins over two dozen tattoos already adorning the singer’s body, many of which McCurdy has personally inked.

Her collection includes famous pieces like the cascading stars on her neck, an Egyptian falcon on her ankle, and the expansive image of the Goddess Isis on her ribcage.

She also famously has the phrase “never a failure, always a lesson” written backwards on her collarbone so she can read the motivational reminder whenever she looks in a mirror.

The new tattoo comes just days after Rihanna turned heads at the 2026 Met Gala, where she embraced the “Costume Art” theme in a metallic Maison Margiela gown.
