Mitchell’s Brilliant Knock Guides New Zealand to 269-7 vs Windies – SUCH TV
Hobbling Daryl Mitchell scored his seventh one-day international century as New Zealand posted 269-7 in the opening ODI against the West Indies on Sunday.
Batting through a groin injury, Mitchell made 119 runs before being dismissed in the final over, dominating the home side’s innings after a slow start at Christchurch’s Hagley Oval.
New Zealand lost early wickets as Matthew Forde struck twice in consecutive deliveries, dismissing Rachin Ravindra and Will Young to leave the Kiwis reeling at 24-2. Opener Devon Conway contributed 49 runs, but aside from Mitchell, the rest of the batting line-up struggled for timing.
The 34-year-old world No. 3 in ODI cricket was cautious initially but accelerated in the latter stages, smashing 12 fours and two sixes to the leg-side boundary.
Despite favoring his injury while running between the wickets, Mitchell reached his century with a commanding pull off seamer Jayden Seales in the 46th over.
He was later caught in the deep off the same bowler while attempting a similar shot.
Seales handed Mitchell a let-off when he was on 67, dropping a relatively simple chance at long on.
Seales was the most successful West Indies bowler, taking 3-41.
Romario Shepherd only bowled four overs before being forced from the field with a hamstring complaint
Fellow-seamer Shamar Springer was handed an ODI debut and finished with 0-59 off his nine overs.
New Zealand won the preceding five-match T20 series 3-1.

College Football Playoff picks after Week 12
The top five of the College Football Playoff standings were unchanged in the first two rankings releases. Things will be different after Week 12.
Saturday started with what looked like a massive upset of No. 3 Texas A&M. South Carolina led 30-3 at halftime, but then the Aggies woke up. After a 21-point third quarter, A&M didn’t take its first lead until the fourth quarter, when it went up 31-30. To pull off the largest comeback in school history, QB Marcel Reed threw for 439 yards and three touchdowns. The Aggies should keep their spot in the top four.
No. 4 Alabama entered Saturday alongside Texas A&M as the only undefeated teams in conference play. But Oklahoma came to Tuscaloosa, got the win and threw the SEC race into a mess. The Sooners had just 212 yards of offense, their fewest in a win since 2001, but forced three turnovers. OU scored 10 points off turnovers and became the first team to beat Bama in consecutive years since Ole Miss in 2014-15.
At the top of the Big Ten and CFP rankings, Ohio State and Indiana cruised in their respective Week 12 games. The top two teams in the rankings outscored their opponents by a combined 79-17. Both the Buckeyes and Hoosiers will have bye weeks in Week 13 before facing their traditional rivals to end the regular season.

B’s McAvoy hit in mouth by puck vs. Canadiens
MONTREAL — Boston defenseman Charlie McAvoy was hit in the mouth by a slap shot and left the Bruins’ game against the Montreal Canadiens midway through the second period Saturday night and didn’t return to the game.
Boston coach Marco Sturm said after the Bruins’ 3-2 victory that McAvoy was “doing OK” and undergoing testing.
“Try to get him home as soon as possible, hopefully tonight with us, but other than that, hopefully he will be OK,” Sturm said.
With the Canadiens on a power play, Noah Dobson‘s one-timer appeared to deflect off Boston forward Mark Kastelic before hitting McAvoy.
McAvoy immediately covered his face and dropped to the ice, while a team doctor rushed from the bench to help him.
The 27-year-old American then hurried to the dressing room after bleeding on the ice. Teammate Nikita Zadorov was seen trying to retrieve lost teeth.
“Praying for him everything’s going to be fine,” Bruins forward David Pastrnak said. “I haven’t heard anything yet. Hopefully, he’s going to be all right. It’s a tough break, so a very tough moment.”
Canadiens forward Cole Caufield was standing next to McAvoy when he was hit.
“It’s terrible,” Caufield said. “It’s a very scary part of the game, and I just really hope he’s OK. That was tough to see, and I wish him the best.”
The Bruins improved to 12-8-0, winning for the eighth time in nine games.

TRENDING RUMORS
– Manchester United are plotting a move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Gomes, Football Insider reports. The Brazilian is wanted by Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim, who is looking to bolster his squad next summer. If Wolves — who sit bottom of the Premier League table — are relegated this season, they will very likely be forced into letting Gomes leave the club. According to Football Insider, Liverpool are also tracking the 24-year-old, who is contracted at Molineux until June 2030.
– Arsenal have entered the race to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, TEAMtalk reports. The Germany international has been heavily linked with both Manchester United and Barcelona, following a strong start to the Bundesliga season. However, Arsenal are now said to have initiated contact with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes. BVB attempted to secure the 23-year-old’s long-term future earlier this year with a contract extension, but talks stumbled after the club rejected his release clause request. His current deal is set to expire in 2027, potentially opening the door to a transfer next summer.
– Chelsea have agreed to a deal to sign Independiente de Valle defender Deinner Ordóñez, according to Fabrizio Romano. The 16-year-old is set to arrive at Stamford Bridge in January 2028, meaning he’ll continue his development at the Estadio Banco Guayaquil for the time being. Chelsea fought off competition from some of Europe’s biggest clubs to sign Ordóñez, who is an Ecuador under-20 international. A center back by trade, he has also been capped at U15 and U17 levels but is yet to make his senior debut for either Ecuador or Independiente.
– Bayern Munich are prepared to let full back Sacha Boey leave the club in the January transfer window, Christian Falk reports. The BILD reporter suggests that Juventus could be among Boey suitors this winter, having had a long-standing interest in him. As it stands, if a club comes in with a suitable offer for Boey, the German champions would be ready to negotiate. The Frenchman has started only five of Bayern’s 10 Bundesliga matches so far this season.
– Newcastle United defender Fabian Schär could be on the move in January, according to Sky Germany. The Bundesliga has emerged as one potential destination for the Switzerland international, who is out of contract at the end of this season. Schär, 33, is unlikely to be offered an extension by Newcastle, meaning the club could opt to cash in at the next available opportunity.
