Director Carl Rinsch found guilty of scamming M from Netflix and buying luxury cars, watches and mattresses

A Hollywood director was convicted Thursday on charges that he scammed Netflix out of $11 million for a show that never materialized, while he instead used the cash for lavish purchases that included several Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari and about $1 million in mattresses and luxury bedding.

Carl Erik Rinsch, best known for directing the film “47 Ronin,” was convicted of wire fraud, money laundering and other charges, according to court records and a spokesperson for federal prosecutors in New York.

In a statement, Rinsch’s attorney, Benjamin Zeman, said he thought the verdict was wrong and “could set a dangerous precedent for artists who become embroiled in contractual and creative disputes with their benefactors, in this case one of the largest media companies in the world, finding themselves indicted by the federal government for fraud.”

Prosecutors said Netflix had initially paid Rinsch about $44 million for an unfinished sci-fi show called “White Horse,” and then sent over another $11 million after he said he needed additional funding to wrap up the production.

But instead of putting the money toward the show, Rinsch steered the cash to a personal account where he made a series of failed investments, losing around half of the $11 million in a couple months, according to prosecutors. He then put the remaining funds into the cryptocurrency market, netting some profit, though Rinsch then deposited the money into his own bank account.

Then came the lavish purchases, prosecutors said, with Rinsch buying five Rolls-Royces and one Ferrari, along with $652,000 on watches and clothes. He also bought two mattresses for about $638,000 and spent another $295,000 on luxury bedding and linens. In addition, he used some of the money to pay off about $1.8 million in credit card bills, prosecutors said.

Rinsch never finished the show. His sentencing date is set for April.

Netflix declined to comment.

U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, in a statement, said Rinsch “took $11 million meant for a TV show and gambled it on speculative stock options and crypto transactions.”

“Today’s conviction shows that when someone steals from investors, we will follow the money and hold them accountable,” Clayton said.

Sydney Sweeney breaks her silence on ‘quitting’ acting career

Sydney Sweeney opened up about a surprising moment in her life when she almost walked away from acting while filming her intense new boxing biopic Christy.

The 28-year-old actress completely transformed herself to play real fighter Christy Martin.

Sydney trained twice a day, gained 35 pounds of muscle and pushed her body to the limit.

She even walked away with a concussion and bloody noses during filming.

But none of that made her want to quit the movie, instead, it made the actress think about leaving Hollywood for boxing.

In a talk with Ethan Hawke for Variety and CNN’s Actors on Actors, the Euphoria star said the physical work reminded her of her childhood when she used to kickbox.

The Anyone But You actress said the training made her feel alive again and even joked that she thought about quitting acting to become a fighter.

Sweeney shared that every fight in the film came from Christy’s real matches.

She told the stunt team she wanted everything to feel real and they agreed.

Moreover, the result was tough but exciting work that brought her closer to the character.

The Housemaid star further spoke about returning to Euphoria and said she just wrapped Season 3, explaing that playing Cassie pushed her to take emotional risks and trust her instincts.

She said the team always loved the wild takes because those moments felt the most honest.

Sweeney later defended her recent movie Christy after it missed out on Golden Globe nominations, sharing a Sports Illustrated cover with Christy and wrote that it was the most important film shes done.

Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Jason Momoa as Lobo

‘Supergirl’ hits theatres on June 26, 2026

Supergirl takes centre stage as DC Studios finally drops the first trailer for its next major summer release, with Milly Alcock stepping into the role of Kara Zor-El.

On Thursday, December 11, Warner Bros. dropped the first teaser trailer for Supergirl, in which the House of the Dragon star plays a rough-around-the-edges Supergirl — one who drinks, fights, and isn’t interested in being a carbon copy of her cousin, Kal-E.l “He sees the good in everyone, and I see the truth,” she says bitterly in the trailer.

Superman’s loyal dog Krypto also joins the journey, hinting at the film’s mix of grit and charm.

Fans first saw Alcock’s Kara in the closing moments of James Gunn’s Superman, where she appeared inside the Fortress of Solitude.

And while the teaser keeps villains under wraps, audiences do get a brief look at Jason Momoa’s Lobo — a moment fans have been waiting years for. Though it’s only a flash, the actor fully embodies DC’s most infamous bounty hunter, a character who often challenges Superman in the comics.

Directed by Craig Gillespie and based on Tom King’s 2022 comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara as she ventures across the galaxy with a young alien girl seeking justice.

Supergirl lands in theatres on June 26, 2026, setting the stage for a bold new era in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

Katie Price’s new year resolution leaves fans surpised

Katie shared that she spoke with her mom Amy and her stepfather Paul about her vaping habit

Katie Price has vowed to quit her vaping addiction following a recent health scare.

The 48-year-old glamour model opened up about her decision on her eponymous podcast, revealing that the warning signs have made it clear she ‘has to stop.’

She shared pan X-ray showing damaged lungs and highlighted medical findings, stating: ‘Vaping has officially been linked to rare and irreversible lung disease.’

Katie admitted the images were shocking, adding: ‘I saw it (the X-ray). It’s so bad the vaping, it’s so bad for people.’

Her resolve has also been strengthened by her mother Amy’s battle with terminal Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Amy, 73, underwent a life-saving lung transplant in 2022, and her experience has made Katie determined to protect her own health.

Katie explained that she spoke with Amy and her stepfather Paul about her vaping habit, saying: ‘I had a word with mum and Paul and said my new year’s resolution is to give up vapes. I am lucky I have had my lungs checked so there’s so damage to my lungs.’

Earlier this week, Katie sparked fresh health concerns after admitting to her vaping addiction. Her mother’s ongoing struggles with IPF has clearly been a motivating factor in Katie’s decision to quit.
