Kate Garraway reluctant to discuss Liam Halligan romance over ‘jinx’ fears

Kate said her blossoming relationship with Liam has been a ‘lovely’ distraction from caring for her ill parents

Kate Garraway has shared interesting insights into her new relationship for the first time.

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 59, formed a close bond with her broadcaster friend Liam Halligan, whom she has known for two decades, two years after the death of her husband, Derek Draper.

In 2024, the veteran host, 59, lost her soulmate Derek Draper following his battle with Covid-19.

Speaking at the Chelsea Flower Show on Tuesday, Kate said her blossoming relationship with Liam has been a ‘lovely’ distraction from caring for her ill parents.

‘It is lovely. I suppose it is! We basically haven’t really had time for a proper date! I don’t want to jinx it! I don’t want to say anything because I will jinx it! I will jinx it. We all love an Irishman don’t we?’, Kate said.

The presenter went on to say they haven’t been on as many dates as she would like because she has been ‘consumed’ with caring for her elderly parents.

She told The Mirror: ‘My mum and dad have not been very well so I’ve been really consumed by that.

‘It’s been tricky and I’ve just been doing that this weekend. My dad was supposed to be with me actually [at Chelsea] but he’s not well enough. I’m very lucky to have both of them and I know it’s normal [part of ageing].’

Liam recently admitted the pair had become ‘good friends’ after both becoming ‘single, against our wishes’ in recent years.

Kate has been single since the death of her husband Derek Draper in January 2024, following his debilitating four-year long battle with covid.

Award-winning journalist and single father Liam, 56, is separated from his partner, journalist Lucy Ward. They have a son and two daughters, Maeve and Ailis, who play with him in his band.

Niall Horan gives rare insight into friendship with One Direction bandmates

Niall Horan gets candid about forming lasting bonds with former One Direction members

Niall Horan seemingly put an end to all speculations of feud between the former One Direction bandmates, by sharing a wholesome anecdote about the boys’ longstanding friendships.

The 32-year-old Irish singer spoke about how the band members – including Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and himself maintain their bonds as they focus on their individual careers.

Following their bandmate Liam Payne’s passing, the other musicians have stuck together as the Slow Hands hitmaker shared in a recent interview.

As per an X post, “Niall said that the boys are good at checking in on each other and seeing how everyone is doing. He said, ‘We’re good at like checking in on each other and see how everyone’s doing. Cause we all like, that’s the only thing about what we do is, anyone could be anywhere at any time.'”

Horan continued, “Like, you get to LA and you’ll be like, ‘I’ve just arrived,’ and they’ll say, ‘Well, I left last night.’ Yeah, yeah. But like there, there’s a lot of, you know, shifts in the night stuff, so. But yeah, we… I definitely speak to them all, you know, every couple of weeks.”

The One Direction members are all currently on tour across the world, and have previously expressed their support for each other’s solo careers.

Although Tomlinson and Malik sparked beef speculations recently, Horan’s comments suggest that they still share a united front.

Jake Shane reacts to backlash over viral Kacey Musgraves clip

Jake Shane has addressed online backlash nearly two weeks after a viral clip from his Kacey Musgraves podcast interview circulated on social media.

Shane spoke with Musgraves on his Therapuss podcast on May 6, discussing her career and her 2026 album Middle of Nowhere.

During the conversation, Shane asked the singer to explain a lyric from her 2018 song “Slow Burn,” referencing the line: “In Tennessee, the sun’s goin’ down / But in Beijing, they’re headin’ out to work.”

Musgraves appeared surprised by the question, explaining that the lyric simply refers to different time zones rather than a deeper meaning.

The exchange quickly went viral, with social media users reacting to Shane’s confusion and flooding comment sections with jokes and criticism. Some questioned whether he understood the concept of time zones, while others expressed surprise that the lyric needed clarification.

One TikTok user wrote, “Why did this need to be explained??” while another joked, “Time zones baby. They’re real.”

Shane later responded to the backlash in a lighthearted manner, resharing posts from the online conversation on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram Stories.

He wrote, “Like I’m ready to laugh, we can laugh,” indicating he was taking the situation in stride.

Musgraves’ album Middle of Nowhere was released on May 1, 2026.
