Martin Short’s daughter Katherine dies at 42

Martin Short is mourning the loss of his daughter, Katherine Hartley Short, who has died at the age of 42, prompting an outpouring of grief from family and friends and a request for privacy from the Short family.

The news comes as a devastating blow to the veteran actor, who has dealt with the earlier loss of his wife after 30 years of marriage.

According to law enforcement sources, emergency services responded to a call at Katherine’s Hollywood Hills home on the evening of Monday, 23 February, where she was found dead from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Fire Department both attended the scene.

In a statement shared with media, the Short family said they are “devastated by this loss” and have asked for privacy at this very difficult time.

“Katherine was beloved by all and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world,” they added.

More about Katherine Short:

Katherine was the eldest of three adopted children of Short and his late wife, Nancy Dolman, who died in 2010 after battling ovarian cancer.

Alongside younger brothers Oliver and Henry, Katherine largely kept a private life despite her father’s long career in entertainment.

A licensed clinical social worker, Katherine was deeply involved in mental health work in Los Angeles, including private practice and part-time roles at clinics such as Amae Health, where she provided counselling, support groups and psychotherapy.

She also worked with the charity Bring Change 2 Mind, which focuses on reducing the stigma around mental illness.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and gender sexuality studies from New York University in 2006 and went on to receive a master’s in social work from the University of Southern California in 2010, later working in various clinical and community outreach roles prior to her own practice.

Katherine occasionally appeared alongside her father at events over the years, but preferred to keep much of her life out of the spotlight.

Friends and followers have expressed shock and sorrow at the news, as the family begins to process another profound loss.

Is Claude down? Here’s why users are seeing errors

Anthropic’s Claude AI is reportedly down on Wednesday, April 15.

As reported by Downdetector, over 15,000 users have reported the incident. The major problem of outage is connectivity issues.

The service disruption started in the early morning hours, with users increasingly reporting issues.

By 8:02 a.m. PT, over 7,000 users had reported problems.

Within 25 minutes, the outage reports escalated to double, surpassing 15,000 affected users.

46% of the users cited the problem in Claude code, while 24% referred to the problems in Claude chat. On the other hand, 18% reported a problem with the mobile app.

Users report that login failures and website accessibility issues also prevail.

Anthropic’s status page revealed that the organization had confirmed that it was “investigating the problem.” However, at 8:08 a.m. PT, the status changed to show that a “fix is being rolled out.”

By 8:25 a.m. PT, Anthropic stated that “the Claude API is now fully recovered as of 8:01 PT/16:01 UTC.”

In the official statement, Claude acknowledged the issue, writing: “We are currently working on mitigating the ongoing errors for Claude AI. Claude Code users who are logged in are still able to use it, but logging in is still broken.”

RAF jets scrambled as suspected Russian bomber approaches UK airspace

Two British Royal Air Force (RAF) fighter jets supported by a Voyager refuelling jet responded after an unidentified aircraft was observed approaching British airspace on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.

However, no direct interception took place as the unidentified plane remained out of the United Kingdom’s airspace.

The incident comes amid ongoing U.S. war against Iran, which has seen several drone attacks by Iran on U.S. bases and energy infrastructure in the Middle East in retaliation to U.S.-Israeli joint military strikes. The attacks prompted the RAF to stay alert in case of any potential incursion by a hostile aircraft.

In an interview with ITV News, an RAF spokesperson detailed the incident, saying, “RAF Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighter aircraft were sent to respond to the unidentified aircraft that was approaching British airspace.”

He added that no interception took place as the unidentified aircraft remained outside of the area of interest.

Although the spokesperson did not share details about the approaching aircraft, The Telegraph reported that it was a suspected Russian long-range bomber.

The incident comes amid increased Russian military activity in the region. Last week, UK Defence Secretary John Healey said the British Navy tracked two Russian spy submarines and one attack submarine in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Healey said Putin was trying to take advantage of the situation in the Middle East, describing him as “primary threat to UK security.”
