Men’s AP Top 25 poll reaction: Highlights, what’s next for every team
The seventh in-season edition of the men’s AP Top 25 poll features a notable change at the top.
While Arizona and Michigan retain their positions at No. 1 and 2, respectively, Duke falls from No. 3 to No. 6 after suffering its first loss of the season on Saturday: a 17-point, second-half comeback by Texas Tech. Iowa State, UConn and Purdue each move up a spot as a result, though the top 10 otherwise remains the same week-over-week.
Further down the board, St. John’s and Auburn fall out, while USC and Iowa join the mix.

Alex Karaban is making his way up the list of most made 3-pointers in program history, cementing himself at No. 6 with 240 career 3s after Sunday’s 3-for-6 effort against DePaul.

Stat to know: Braden Smith leads the Big Ten in point-assist double-doubles after notching his third of the season on Sunday with 11 points and 14 assists in a win over Auburn. He also became the first Purdue player in at least 20 seasons with three straight games of 10-plus assists.

Stat to know: Duke suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday, allowing Texas Tech to mount a 17-point comeback in an 82-81 win at Madison Square Garden. It was the Blue Devils’ largest blown lead since 2007; it snapped their 69-0 win streak when leading by 15-plus points with Jon Scheyer at the helm (since 2022-23).

Stat to know: Alvaro Folgueiras came off the bench to score 15 of his 17 points before halftime of Iowa’s 94-39 win over Bucknell on Saturday.

Crystal Palace and United States defender Chris Richards was taken from the field on a stretcher during his team’s Carabao Cup quarterfinal shootout loss to Arsenal on Tuesday.
Richards leapt to defend an Arsenal cross into the area late in the second half and appeared to be in discomfort after landing. He then went to ground and, after treatment by Palace’s medical team, was taken from the field on a stretcher.
After the match, Palace manager Oliver Glasner said he hoped the injury was not too serious and that Richards would be back on the field within the next few games.
“He got a knock on his foot, [someone] stamped on his foot,” Glasner said. “He had to be stitched. I don’t know how many stitches but a few. The doctor told me it didn’t look so bad, so I am hopeful. I don’t know if he will be back for the Tottenham game, but I hope he will be back for Fulham.”
The 25-year-old has once again been a regular on the right side of the Crystal Palace defense this season and is expected to play a significant role for the United States at the World Cup in 2026.
If Richards’ injury is serious, it would be the second piece of bad news for Mauricio Pochettino and the Americans after Tyler Adams tore his MCL on Dec. 15 in Bournemouth’s 4-4 draw with Manchester United in the Premier League.
Adams is expected to be out for two to three months as he recovers from the injury and could be back to full fitness ahead of next summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

An internet rumor swirled last week that a longtime NFL reporter had died at the age of 40.
News of Jane Slater‘s supposed death on social media, but she was quick to shut it down.
An X user posted a screenshot of a post on Facebook that showed Slater in black and white with the graphic “1980-2025” saying she had died at 40. Slater, 45, was born in 1980, but the years written in the post would mean she died at either age 44 or 45.

If there is one thing the Facebook post got correct, it’s that Slater does mainly cover the Cowboys for the NFL Network.
