Monday sports guide: World Series and ‘MNF,’ plus NBA, NHL and more showdowns
Some days on the sports calendar merit circling. They come once a year: Super Bowl Sunday; the opening Thursday of March Madness. Take your pick. But did you know Monday is such a day on the sports calendar?
That’s right. Oct. 27, 2025, marks a “sports equinox.”
The premise is simple. Because of the different schedules across professional sports (the NFL plays only in the fall and winter, the NBA season doesn’t start until mid-autumn, etc.), there’s an extremely small window in a year when all four of the major men’s American professional sports leagues are all playing on one night. This year, Monday is that window.
And for those who want even more sports content, fear not — there’s a lot more than just the NFL, MLB, NBA and NHL occurring Monday. Is soccer more your speed? There are plenty of options, from a 1 p.m. ET collegiate kickoff, to MLS playoffs later in the night. WWE is on the docket, as well.
Interested in what the four major men’s American professional sports leagues will be up to on the 2025 sports equinox? We’ve got you covered.

MLB
Key notes: It’s the World Series. Need we say more? After splitting the first two games of the series, the Toronto Blue Jays head west to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 on Monday. It will be veteran Max Scherzer on the mound for the Blue Jays against Tyler Glasnow for the Dodgers.
Your most time-efficient game: Blue Jays-Dodgers, 8 p.m. ET (Fox)
NBA
Key notes: There’s no shortage of basketball Monday, with 22 of the league’s 30 teams playing. Highlights include a regional rivalry showdown between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons and the Dallas Mavericks hosting the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder, but fans experiencing other sports earlier in the night will likely find the most joy in the later games: the Nuggets, Timberwolves, Grizzlies, Warriors, Lakers and Trail Blazers all tip off at 9:30 p.m. ET or later.
Your most time-efficient game: Denver Nuggets–Minnesota Timberwolves, 9:30 p.m. ET (Peacock)
NFL
Key notes: The equinox’s “Monday Night Football” matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders contains a little less intrigue with the Commanders’ ascendant quarterback, Jayden Daniels, ruled out. But the contest should still be worth watching, with the Chiefs finding their rhythm hosting the Commanders, who will look to make a major statement in Arrowhead.
Your most time-efficient game: Commanders-Chiefs, 8:15 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN)
NHL
Key notes: It’s not a deep NHL slate for the equinox — just four teams will be in action Monday night. The first game is a cross-conference contest between the St. Louis Blues and Pittsburgh Penguins, and the other is a divisional matchup between the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators. Any chance to watch 38-year-old Pittsburgh star Sidney Crosby before he eventually retires is a worthy call.
Your most time-efficient game: Blues-Penguins, 7 p.m. ET (NHL Network)
Elsewhere in the sports world…
Key notes: You think we were missing the chance to plug midday college soccer? Absolutely not. BYU and UCF women’s soccer are jostling for position in the Big 12 standings, and they’ll be kicking off in Orlando at 1 p.m. ET. Soon after, in Spain, a pair of top LaLiga squads in Atlético Madrid and Real Betis will meet at 4 p.m. in an early possible tempo-setter in the race for a Champions League place. Want postseason soccer action? A pair of MLS Cup playoff games will kick off Monday night — a Hell Is Real derby between FC Cincinnati and the Columbus Crew and a Western Conference matchup between Minnesota United and the Seattle Sounders.
There’s even WWE on Monday night! “Monday Night Raw” will be live from Anaheim, California, featuring Seth Rollins, Rhea Ripley and more.
Your most time-efficient game(s): BYU-UCF, 1 p.m. ET (ESPN+); Atlético Madrid-Real Betis, 4 p.m. ET (ESPN Deportes/ESPN+); Columbus Crew-FC Cincinnati, 6:45 p.m. ET (FS1); “Monday Night Raw,” 7:30 p.m. ET (Netflix)

Carol Davis, longtime Raiders ‘First Lady,’ dead at 93
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Carol Davis, the widow of longtime Las Vegas Raiders owner Al Davis and mother of current owner Mark Davis, has passed away at 93.
Carol Davis, known affectionately as “The First Lady of Raider Nation,” died on Friday, the team said in an announcement on Sunday. Her son lit the Al Davis Memorial Torch at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas in her honor.
“Carol provided unbridled support and unparalleled guidance to the Davis family and the Raiders organization for over 60 years,” the team said in a statement. “Her direct impact on the Greatness of the Raiders continues to be felt, cherished, and honored, and is woven into the fabric of this historic franchise. If Al was the heart of the Raiders, Carol was the soul.”

Al Davis married Carol Sagal in 1954, and they became synonymous with Raiders football ever since the former was hired as a coach in 1963 by the franchise. They eventually owned the team, and the Raiders went on to win three Super Bowls – in 1976, 1980 and 1983 – under Davis’ leadership.
Mark Davis was the couple’s only child, born in 1955, and he eventually took control of the franchise when his father died in 2011. Carol Davis retained a share of Raiders ownership.

Carol Davis did not usually have a front-facing role with the team, but she was present for the groundbreaking at Allegiant Stadium in 2017 as the Raiders moved from Oakland to Las Vegas.
During the team’s inaugural season in its new city, Carol Davis was present to light the torch dedicated to her late husband before the team’s first home game in 2020. There were no fans present at the game due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Carol Davis was also the presenter for former Raiders head coach Tom Flores as he entered the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021.
“There’s nobody that could have lit it other than her,” Mark Davis told ESPN during the 2020 season. “Because it’s really a tough time in the country, but also here in Nevada, we don’t want to seem that we’re celebrating or anything of that nature. But to have my mom light that torch means so much, and I think it will mean a lot for everybody in this valley, so I’m excited.”
The Raiders announced a private service will be held in Oakland, California, with plans for a celebration of life to come at a future date.

“Mrs. Davis has ascended to the heavens to take a rightful seat on the Throne of Greatness next to her husband Al, both of whom are wrapped in Cloaks of Immortality,” the team said in a statement.

Jets’ Justin Fields reveals why he was ‘crying on the ground’ in closet before first win of season
NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
For the first time this season, New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields stood at the podium to speak to reporters after a win on Sunday.
The Jets pulled off a miraculous comeback in the fourth quarter to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals, 39-38, to finally secure its first win of the 2025 campaign. They were the only remaining NFL without a win this year.
While Breece Hall’s two touchdown runs played a vital role in the victory, Fields’ efforts to keep the Jets in the game were paramount in getting the win.

Jets fans and even the team’s owner have criticized Fields all season. In fact, there was no certainty Fields would even be starting on the road at Paycor Stadium on Sunday, as head coach Aaron Glenn kept his decision close to his chest until Saturday came around.
Following his redemption game, Fields revealed that the criticism and pressure to perform truly got to him this week.
“I’m going to get pretty vulnerable right here,” Fields told reporters, via Yahoo Sports. “This week, I found myself in my closet crying on the ground, lying down. Not because of the hardships, not because of the troubles. I felt like I was built to handle that… Yesterday, I was just praying over and over and over again, just one win.”
Jets owner Woody Johnson publicly criticized his quarterback’s play during the NFL’s annual fall meeting.
“It’s hard when you have a quarterback with the rating that we’ve got,” Johnson said to a scrum of reporters. “He has the ability, but something is not jiving. If you look at any head coach with a quarterback like that, you are going to see similar results across the league.”

Fields obviously heard what his employer had to say, though he referred to it as “outside noise at the end of the day.”
“I get that he’s the owner of the team, but that’s outside noise,” he continued. “The biggest thing was my teammates believing in me and my coaches still believing in me.”
While Fields got his first win as a Jets player, head coach Aaron Glenn has been waiting for this feeling for seven weeks. Glenn didn’t hold anything back either, recognizing the Jets had the Bengals’ defense on its heels and continued to go for two-point conversions on back-to-back touchdown drives in the fourth quarter.
Without both being successful, perhaps we’re still talking about a winless Jets team on Monday.
But that’s not the case. Instead, the Jets have “Victory Monday,” and hope to build off their win as they head into their bye week now. They will be back out on the field Nov. 9 at home against the Cleveland Browns, another struggling team.

“It’s been a lot for me emotionally, spiritually,” Fields said. “When I was on the field, I was damn near about to start crying, not because we won but because of the goodness of God. Everything I’ve been through this past week, everything that we’ve been through as a team these past seven weeks, it was a lot of ups and downs, and I got a lot of support from my teammates, from my brothers, from my family, from my friends, and most of all I’m just thankful. Yesterday, I started praying, praying like crazy, just for a win.”
Fields went 21-of-32 for 244 yards with one touchdown pass to receiver Tyler Johnson before the end of the first half. Hall added 133 rushing yards on 18 carries with his two scores, while also throwing a touchdown to rookie tight end Mason Taylor.
