NFL fans accuse Eagles of committing penalties on tush push during win over Chiefs

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Philadelphia Eagles’ use of the tush push was a hot topic of discussion in the offseason as NFL owners nearly voted to effectively ban the play.

While the Eagles’ famous play survived the vote, it came under fire on Sunday evening in the team’s 20-17 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs. The play was used multiple times during the game, and quarterback Jalen Hurts scored on it in the fourth quarter, which gave the team a comfortable enough lead to secure the victory.

NFL fans noticed that Eagles offensive linemen may have been moving before the snap while the center may have been over the ball before it was given to Hurts.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said on “Get Up” on Monday that the Chiefs lost the game in March.

“This game was lost in March. This game was lost when the NFL owners refused to ban the tush push from happening. It wasn’t lost yesterday. It was lost in March,” he said.

“And there might be a lot of games the Eagles play that were lost in March because this play is unstoppable. Not only the defense doesn’t know how to handle it but not even the officials know how to handle it. You’re seeing the Eagles’ linemen jump offside every play and nothing’s called.”

The Eagles have used the play for a few years and opposing teams have not been able to stop it for the most part.

TRENDING RUMORS

Real Madrid are confident that they will sign Marc Guéhi when the Crystal Palace center back’s contract ends in the summer, according to The Sun. Los Blancos believe that the 25-year-old favors a move to join fellow England internationals Jude Bellingham and Trent Alexander-Arnold, despite Bayern Munich joining them, Liverpool and Barcelona in the race to sign him as a free agent. The Reds are looking to make a big defensive signing in January, but Guéhi reportedly isn’t interested in a mid-season move.

– Having reported Barcelona’s interest in Levante forward Karl Etta Eyong yesterday, Mundo Deportivo are now suggesting that the Blaugrana are also interested in Strasbourg‘s Joaquín Panichelli. A bicycle kick by the the 23-year-old in the UEFA Conference League group stage against Polish side Jagiellonia caught the eye, but Barca are more impressed by his tally of nine goals in 10 Ligue 1 appearances so far this season. This comes as Barca are not currently in a position to sign or register a world-class striker such as Atletico Madrid’s Julián Álvarez due to financial issues.

Gazzetta dello Sport has suggested that Mexico striker Santiago Gimenez has until January to prove that he should stay at AC Milan, even though the 24-year-old only joined from Feyenoord for €28.5 million last January. In another report, Gazzetta states that the Rossoneri are looking for goal scorers and Gimenez could be involved in a swap deal for Roma’s Artem Dovbyk. Milan are also interested in Manchester United‘s Joshua Zirkzee, Strasbourg’s Joaquin Panichelli and Eintracht Frankfurt‘s Jonathan Burkardt.

– Bayern Munich are seriously considering making an offer to sign Feyenoord right back Givairo Read, as reported by Sky Sports Deutschland, and are already in talks. The 19-year-old recently signed a contract that runs until 2029 but the Netherlands U19 international is aware of the interest. It could still be a complicated deal for Bayern to complete due to attention from the Premier League, with Liverpool also reported to be interested.

– Barcelona are closely monitoring Sao Paulo midfielder Gustavo Zabarelli, as reported by Sport. The 16-year-old has an Italian passport, which could mean the club don’t have to wait until his 18th birthday to sign him, while Sao Paulo have allowed young players to leave in recent times due to their financial struggles. Zabarelli is currently training with VfB Stuttgart for “a few weeks,” while Ajax and Benfica are also keen on a permanent move.

– Hoffenheim are negotiating to extend Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab‘s contract but will offload the 20-year-old winger in January if a deal can’t be agreed, as they want to avoid losing him for free in the summer. He has received interest from top Bundesliga clubs. (Sky Sports Deutschland)

Woodward out as LSU AD amid Landry’s criticism

Woodward out as LSU AD amid Landry’s criticism

Scott Woodward is out as LSU‘s athletic director, the school announced Thursday night, just days after the Tigers fired coach Brian Kelly amid a 5-3 season.

Verge Ausberry, the executive deputy athletic director, will be the interim athletic director.

“We thank Scott for the last six years of service as athletic director,” said Scott Ballard, LSU’s board of supervisors chair. “He had a lot of success at LSU, and we wish him nothing but the best in the future. Our focus now is on moving the athletic department forward and best positioning LSU to achieve its full potential.”

LSU will hold a news conference at 9 a.m. ET Friday to discuss the athletic director change.

Woodward drew the ire of Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, who publicly criticized him multiple times this week. In a news conference Wednesday, Landry said that Woodward would not be hiring LSU’s next football coach.

On the “Pat McAfee Show” on Thursday, Landry added: “There’s a number of bad contracts that seem to have followed Scott Woodward.”

The flurry of comments from Landry made Woodward’s departure an inevitability. According to a source, the expectation is that Woodward will be paid out the more than $6 million he is owed on his contract.

In a letter addressed to Tiger Nation late Thursday, Woodward said his departure comes “with a heavy heart but also with my typical optimism.”

“Others can recap or opine on my tenure and on my decisions over the last six years as Director of Athletics, but I will not,” Woodward wrote in the letter. “Rather, I will focus on the absolute joy that LSU Athletics brings to our state’s residents and to the Baton Rouge community. I will cherish the incredible relationships I have built within the University community and beyond our campus borders. And I will fondly remember the national and SEC championships for the joy that they brought to our student-athletes, coaches, staff, campus community and our incredible fans.

“Our University will always hold a special place in my heart and I will never be too far from LSU.”

Woodward is a longtime college administrator with a political background and an LSU graduate, the type of background suited for this brand of political football. He had been LSU’s athletic director since 2019, a run that included a national title in football, the hiring of Kim Mulkey as the women’s basketball coach and the firing of men’s coach Will Wade.

Mulkey, who led LSU to its first women’s basketball title in 2023, declined to attend a postgame news conference after coaching the Tigers in an exhibition game Thursday night. Assistant Bob Starkey, who went in her place, told reporters that Mulkey was “heartbroken” over Woodward’s departure.

“In 40 years of coaching, I’ve worked with two phenomenal athletic directors,” Starkey said. “One was Skip Bertman [at LSU]. The other one was Scott Woodward.”

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Ravens’ Lamar Jackson lights up Dolphins with 4 TDs in dominant return from injury

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

Lamar Jackson’s return to the Baltimore Ravens couldn’t have gone much better. The former MVP threw four touchdown passes to lead a 28-6 rout of the Miami Dolphins on “Thursday Night Football.”

Jackson had missed the last four games with a hamstring injury, watching from the sidelines as Baltimore slid into a rut. After last week’s win moved the Ravens to 2-6, head coach John Harbaugh confirmed Jackson would be back for Week 9 – and he delivered.

While he didn’t test that hamstring too much with his usual Houdini scrambling act, Jackson’s arm wanted to let loose, having been dormant for a month.

It came in the first quarter after the Ravens’ defense forced a fumble on Tahj Washington that put Baltimore on Miami’s seven-yard line. After Derrick Henry attempted to get in twice and failed, Jackson rolled out on fourth-and-goal and found his trusty tight end Mark Andrews to make it a 7-3 ballgame.

Then, after a missed Dolphins field goal, Jackson led the way on a seven-play, 75-yard drive where Andrews was open yet again, this time catching and running 20 yards into the end zone for a 14-3 Ravens lead.

Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa was hearing a shower of boos that only got louder with each quarter as the Dolphins struggled to find the colored paint. In fact, they didn’t do it throughout the night despite reaching the red zone five times.

With a 14-6 first half lead, Jackson and the Ravens decided to blow this game open with a methodically, 11-play drive that ended with a Charlie Kolar touchdown. The Dolphins were only able to run seven total plays in the third quarter, and Jackson found Rashod Bateman for his fourth touchdown pass of the contest as even more jeers rained down from the Hard Rock Stadium crowd.

They reached a peak in the fourth quarter when a 12-play Dolphins drive ended with a Malik Washington fumble in the red zone, while Tagovailoa was intercepted by rookie Malachi Starks to seal the game.

In the box score, Jackson was 18-of-23 for 204 yards with his four touchdowns, while rushing for just 15 yards. Henry, though, rushed for 119 yards on 19 carries, while Zay Flowers caught five Jackson passes for 64 yards.

For Miami, Tagovailoa was 25-for-40 for 261 yards with no touchdowns and one interception. De’Von Achane, the Dolphins’ dynamic running back, rushed for 67 yards and caught six passes for 39 yards. Jaylen Waddle led the game with 82 yards on six receptions.

The Ravens know they need to extend this win streak to reach their playoff goals after a 1-6 start to the season, and that’s exactly what they got in Jackson’s return.

On the other hand, the Dolphins still have a lot to figure out after a promising win over the Atlanta Falcons last week.
