Pakistani runners make their mark at Istanbul Marathon
Pakistani runners showcased exceptional endurance and determination on Sunday at the Istanbul Marathon — the only marathon in the world that spans two continents.
As many as twelve Pakistani athletes successfully covered the 42.195-kilometre distance during the event.
Mubariz Bin Rafay emerged as the fastest among them, completing the race in three hours, 21 minutes, and 30 seconds.
He was followed by Mujtaba Ahsan, who clocked three hours and 23 minutes, while Istanbul-based Ismail Khan finished third among Pakistanis in four hours and three minutes.
Geo News Deputy Sports Editor Faizan Lakhani also completed his first marathon, finishing the 42.195-kilometre course in five hours and 13 minutes.
Meanwhile, Sahar Ali Janjua led the pack for Pakistan, completing the distance in four hours and 22 minutes, followed by Hina Malik, who finished in four hours and 49 minutes.
Other Pakistani participants included Omer Rasheed, Zain Ahmad, Kashif Raza, Mehwish Hanif, Sadaf Saad, and Haziq Khalid.
Spectators cheered the Pakistani runners — easily recognisable in their green shirts — as they crossed the Bosphorus Bridge from Asia to Europe.

NFL broadcaster Cris Collinsworth makes government shutdown joke as Seahawks clobber Commanders

Cris Collinsworth, a former Cincinnati Bengals star and NBC broadcaster, made a joke about the government shutdown during the Seattle Seahawks’ monstrous 38-14 win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday night.
As the game changed from the third to the fourth quarter, the NBC broadcast showed the U.S. Capitol.

“There’s a calm place,” Collinsworth said, which generated a chuckle out of play-by-play man Mike Tirico.
The government shutdown is set to enter its sixth week. President Donald Trump said in an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” he believed Democrats will eventually give in to Republicans’ demands as the two sides have not been at the negotiating table at all.
“I think they have to,” Trump said. “And if they don’t vote, it’s their problem.”

Meanwhile, the Seahawks were beating up the Commanders behind a fiery start from Sam Darnold. The veteran quarterback completed his first 17 passes and didn’t throw an incompletion until his first drive of the third quarter.
Darnold had four touchdown passes in the first half – two to Tory Horton and one each to Cody White and Elijah Arroyo. Seattle scored 28 points before the halftime whistle.
Darnold was 21-of-24 with 330 passing yards. He did have a second-half interception.
Seahawks tight end A.J. Barner had a rushing touchdown in the game as Jaxson Smith-Njiba led Seattle with eight catches for 129 yards.

Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels left the game early when he suffered a gruesome arm injury. He was 16-of-22 with 153 passing yards and an interception. He had a rushing touchdown, as did running back Chris Rodriguez.
Seattle moved to 5-2 on the year. Washington fell to 3-5.

The Washington Commanders will try to snap a three-game losing streak when they host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m.

Kyle Larson was well behind Denny Hamlin as the NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race was coming down to the final laps on Sunday evening at Phoenix Raceway, but fellow contender William Byron caused a caution when one of his tires blew.
Larson went to the pits to get some fresh tires and the quick stop allowed him to get better track position, whereas Hamlin’s stop was slower and he fell from first place all the way back to 10th. In overtime, with two laps to go, Larson got a good jump and was able to hold off Hamlin to secure the second NASCAR Cup Series Championship of his career.

Hamlin led 208 laps and was in the lead when the caution came out. He told NBC he was really hoping that a caution flag wasn’t going to come out in the final laps. Unfortunately, the hopes were crushed.
He looked shocked as the NBC cameras showed him sitting in his No. 11 Toyota. He won six races during the year, but failed to finish ahead of Larson to secure what would have been the first championship of his career.
Instead, it was Larson, who did just enough to hold the trophy at the end. He had three wins on the year and held his own in the playoffs to become one of the Championship Four drivers. He didn’t lead any laps in the championship race.

Byron, who won the Martinsville race to get into the championship, finished in 33rd. He led 52 laps and gave Hamlin the biggest run for his money for most of the race.
Briscoe finished in 18th. He led three laps.
Ryan Blaney won the race itself. He finished ahead of Brad Keselowski and Larson. Joey Logano and Kyle Busch rounded out the top five.
Larson became the third Hendrick Motorsports driver to win multiple NASCAR Cup Series titles, joining Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson.
