Scarlett Johansson on stepping behind the camera to direct “Eleanor the Great”: “It all came at the right time”
Award-winning actors Scarlett Johansson and June Squibb are pushing boundaries in their new film, “Eleanor the Great.”
Johansson steps behind the camera to direct the movie.
“She did beautifully,” said Squibb about Johansson’s first time directing. “She’s such a leader and she worked from the standpoint of the knowledge she had as an actor, which was great for me. It was just a wonderful experience. Everything was very easy. “
Squibb stars as 94-year-old Eleanor Morgenstein. After the loss of her best friend, she moves to New York City to reconnect with family. She ultimately wanders into a Holocaust survivors support group and finds herself in the middle of a lie with serious consequences.
“The hope is that at the end of the film that the audience has compassion and empathy … for Eleanor, what she’s going through and understands why she does what she does. I mean, that’s the — if I did my job right, that’s the goal,” Johansson said.
Squibb said while reading the script, she knew by the second page that she was meant to play Eleanor.
“I just felt this was a woman that I understood, and that I thought she was so human. I mean, all these different things about her and you don’t get that very much, you know, when you’re working the scripts either stage or film,” she said.
As for playing a leading role at the age of 95, Squibb said she thought, “Why not? Why shouldn’t I do it?”
For Johansson, the movie helped her accomplish her childhood dream, saying, “it all came at the right time.”
She reflected on wanting to direct a film since she was only 12 years old.
“I think I thought that I would act until I was an adult, and then I would direct, and then … life had other plans for me. I think I got to be in my early 20s, and I was curious about getting better at that job, and so I didn’t — I think it all happened at the right time. I don’t think I could have directed this when I was 25,” she said.
“Eleanor the Great” opens in theaters on Friday, Sept. 26.

Adam Peaty ‘in tears’ as Holly Ramsay walks down the aisle
Adam Peaty was moved to tears when Holly Ramsay walked down the aisle at their wedding ceremony on December, 27, at Bath Abbey, his close friend and showbiz friend Sara Davies has revealed.
The Olympic swimmer, 30, and his blushing bride, 25, appeared in high spirits as they made a grand exit after their lavish wedding, which reportedly sparked nasty feud and tore Adam’s family apart.
Among the star-studded guest list which includes 200 attendees, was Sir David, 50, his wife, Victoria Beckham, 51, as well as their children, Romeo, 23, Cruz, 20, and Harper, 14.
Dragon’s Den star Sara, 41, was among the celebrity guests, having formed a friendship with Adam when they both appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2021.
While Sara has yet to upload any pictures of the couple, she did post a sweet message to Adam on Instagram on Sunday and shared photos of the pair together.
She sweetly said: ‘Yesterday I had the privilege of being at this amazing man’s wedding – and it also gave me a moment to reflect on how lucky I’ve been to have him in my life over the past four years.
‘From the first day we met on Strictly, we’ve been firm friends, and it was a real honour to sit in Bath Abbey and watch him get emotional as the love of his life walked down the aisle.
‘It was such a special day. Simon and I had the best time, the service was beautiful – and I’m sure you’ll not be surprised to hear me say, it was hands down the best wedding food I’ve ever had.
‘Wishing my wonderful friend and his gorgeous bride a lifetime of happiness together.’
She also shared a series of snaps from their Strictly days together.
She posted additional pictures from the ceremony to her Instagram Stories, where she reunited with fellow Strictly star Dan Walker.
She was joined by her husband Simon and wore a blue and black flower patterned dress.

Adam Peaty’s heartbroken mum breaks silence after missing son’s wedding
Adam Peaty’s heartbroken mother, Caroline, was seen for the first time since her son married his wife Holly Ramsay without her in attendance.
The couple, who became engaged in September, 12, 2024, said ‘I do’ on December, 27 at Bath Abbey.
After deciding against attending the ceremony uninvited, Caroline was seen visiting her own mother, Mavis, on Sunday.
It comes after Caroline revealed to the DailyMail that she has been left shattered over missing her son’s big day, saying the couple have hurt her deeply.
Caroline looked downcast as she left her family home in Staffordshire, hours after her husband Mark was also seen out and about.
Her appearance came after it was revealed that Mark had been invited to the wedding on one condition: he would have to sit it in the back row.
From Adam’s side, his younger sister Bethany is the only member who believed to have remain close following the family fallout.
Bethany joined Holly’s sisters, Tilly and Megan, as they led the bridal party at the couple’s wedding on Saturday.
A family source told The Sun on Sunday: ‘Frankly, it’s disgusting that it went ahead without Adam reaching out to his mum and dad beforehand.’
The insider continued: ‘It was a difficult day for Caroline and Mark, so the family spent the evening together. Caroline got upset as soon as she saw the photographs from the wedding.
‘For him to turn around and tell Beth that his dad could come and sit at the back of the church is awful. Mark was told he could sit behind plus-ones — who Adam has probably never even seen or spoken to.’
Meanwhile Adam’s mum Caroline said she is trying to stay upbeat and positive but, in truth, her heart is breaking.

Andrew faces fresh scrutiny after FBI note mentions hidden Epstein tapes
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been dealt another blow as his deep links to Jeffrey Epstein continue to unravel.
According to a new report published by The Sun on December 27, the former prince is referenced in claims involving alleged hidden recordings at one of Epstein’s properties.
The report states that the FBI received the tip in 2020 from an IP address traced to Norway. The message alleged that tapes were hidden inside a secret compartment at Epstein’s Bahamas home, though it remains unclear whether the recordings exist or what they might contain. There is also no confirmation that the FBI acted on the information.
The note, reportedly labelled “Federal Bureau of Investigation Official Record,” includes the claim: “Pedophilia organized by JE for Prince Andrew.
“For evidence: look for keys stored in the drawing room. There are tapes in a secret compartment of a drawer next to a Michelangelo picture of a flower vase at his house in the Bahamas.”
The Sun further reported that the informant alleged the crimes had been ongoing for 15 years. However, no evidence has emerged to substantiate the claims, and authorities have not confirmed their authenticity.
Andrew, 65, has consistently denied all wrongdoing linked to Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell. He has largely remained out of the public eye in recent months as more Epstein Files continue to be released, including previously disclosed emails reportedly exchanged with Epstein and Maxwell.
The former prince was stripped of his royal titles earlier this year by his brother King Charles III amid ongoing fallout from the scandal.
