‘The View’ breaks silence on Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension

‘The View’ hosts speak out against Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension

Since the suspension of Jimmy Kimmel over slain Charlie Kirk’s killer remarks, many stars in Hollywood have spoken out. Now, The View is sharing its protest.

Whoopi Goldberg, one of the show’s co-hosts, said in the show on Monday, “Did y’all really think we weren’t going to talk about Jimmy… have you watched the show over the last 29 seasons? No one silences us.”

She continues, “When the news broke last week about Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension, we took a breath to see if Jimmy was going to say anything about it first.”

“You cannot like a show and it can go off the air. Someone can say something they shouldn’t and get taken off the air. But the government cannot apply pressure to force someone to be silenced.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin also chimed in: “The First Amendment is the first for a reason, because you need to be able to hold those in power accountable.”

In the end, Whoopi concludes, “We talk about freedom of speech a lot because we are always in somebody’s mess because somebody has decided that we have said something that’s offensive.”

“But we fight for everybody’s right to have freedom of speech because it means my speech is free, it means your speech is free.”

The hosts of The View’s remarks on Jimmy’s suspension come after speculation among fans whether ABC instructed them to be silent on the matter, as their show also airs on the network.

China says to launch digital currency action plan

China will on January 1 launch an “action plan” for boosting management and operations of its digital currency, a deputy governor of the country’s central bank said Monday.

“The future digital yuan will be a modern digital payment and circulation means issued and circulated within the financial system,” People’s Bank of China (PBoC) Deputy Governor Lu Lei wrote in Financial News, a media outlet under the central bank.

In the next step towards that goal, a “new generation” arrangement for digital yuan will be launched on January 1, Lu said, encompassing a “measurement framework, management system, operating mechanism and ecosystem”.

The “action plan” will see banks pay interest on balances held by clients in digital yuan—a move to incentivise broader adoption of the currency.

The plan also includes a proposal to establish an international digital yuan operations centre in the eastern financial hub of Shanghai, the report said.

Monetary authorities around the world have in recent years been exploring ways to digitalise currencies, propelled by a boom in online payments during the pandemic and the increased popularity of cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin.

The PBoC has been working on a digital currency since 2014 and has been testing the use of a “digital yuan” or “e-CNY” in various pilot programmes.

Consumers across the country already widely use mobile and online payments, but the digital yuan could allow the central bank — rather than the big tech giants — access to more data and control over payments.

Simu Liu details inspiration behind ‘The Copenhagen Test’

Simu Liu reflected on his latest spy project, The Copenhagen Test and what made him drawn towards it.

Liu plays a new-future intelligence agent, Alexander Hale, whose brain gets hacked allowing unknown forces to see and hear everything he does.

In a conversation with the Deadline, the Marvel star discussed his new sci-fi thriller series in detail.

“I think on the one hand, it was definitely the premise and the world building, just dealing with themes of surveillance and technology,” he began. “I feel like a lot of those things are really just topical and relevant today.”

He continued, “And so, I think there was that. I really appreciated Thomas’ take on this 5 minutes into the future, set in this world of intelligence. And just getting to play a super spy, I think is something that I’ve always wanted to do.”

Liu went on to talk about the relatability of the role saying, “And then on the other hand, it was the cultural specificity. I really was struck by Alexander’s backstory in the script and feeling like he was somebody who, in a fully three dimensional ways, kind of embodied what it was like for someone from an immigrant family to be in a situation or to work in a situation, an environment where they’re constantly being second-guessed, constantly being overlooked and underestimated.”

“I think, for myself, it’s something that a lot of people who grew up in those immigrant families, something that I think resonates a lot.” He said.

The Copenhagen Test was released on December 27.

Beyonce joins Taylor Swift, Rihanna reaching new heights of stardom

Beyonce earns major milestone after ‘Cowboy Carter’ Grammy win

Beyonce achieved a new title, which only a few musicians have reached before her, and became the fifth-ever musician to become a billionaire.

The 44-year-old songstress joined Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen, and her husband, Jay-Z, in the billionaires’ club.

Queen Bey’s latest milestone added to her already long list of achievements for this year, including the Album of the Year win at the Grammys for her album, Cowboy Carter.

The Diva hitmaker also earned the title of having the highest-grossing concert tour of 2025.

Along with a highly successful and culturally significant musical career, Beyonce is also a businesswoman, and her company, Parkwood Entertainment, which she founded in 2008, manages the business side of her craft.

The official Forbes announcement, which revealed Queen Bey’s billionaire status, detailed, “In total, the Cowboy Carter Tour grossed more than $400 million in ticket sales, per Pollstar, and another $50 million in merchandise sold at the shows, according to Forbes estimates. And because Parkwood produced it all, Beyoncé was able to secure higher profit margins.”

It continued to explain that Beyonce’s tour earnings and revenue from her music catalog are estimated to be “$148 million in 2025 before taxes, making her the third-highest paid musician in the world.”
