TRENDING RUMORS

Manchester United are considering an approach for Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens, according to the Daily Mail. The Red Devils are believed to have placed the 23-year-old on their shortlist as a potential alternative to Paris Saint-Germain‘s Gianluigi Donnarumma, but could face competition from Inter Milan. The Serie A club are also keen to strengthen between the posts, and The Sun reports that they are interested in a reunion with André Onana. Uncertainty is continuing to surround Onana’s future at Old Trafford and he wasn’t fit enough to start in the opening Premier League match against Arsenal on Sunday, as Altay Bayindir played instead.

Napoli are looking at Man United striker Joshua Zirkzee, reports Gazzetta dello Sport. Zirkzee, 24, is reportedly one of several options being considered by the Serie A side, who are keen to find a replacement for Romelu Lukaku after he suffered an injury during a preseason friendly with Olympiacos. Fabrizio Romano says that Napoli have also enquired with the Red Devils regarding a potential loan deal for Rasmus Hojlund, while The Independent reports he is on the radar of Fulham.

Paris Saint-Germain want a transfer fee of around €50m from clubs looking to sign goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, says Sky Sports. Donnarumma, 26, was told to find a new club after the European champions signed Lucas Chevalier from Lille for €40m and has been attracting interest from Manchester City and Manchester United. The Italy international’s contract expires in 2026, so PSG are aware they need to move him on this window before the value of his transfer drops.

– A move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson is being weighed up by Aston Villa, says Florian Plettenberg. Villa are reported to be closely monitoring the 24-year-old, with initial talks having already taken place. It is believed that they are one of several clubs interested in him, while Bayern Munich made a recent enquiry. Jackson, who has also been linked with Newcastle, played no part in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday, with manager Enzo Maresca looking to both João Pedro and Liam Delap as his two main striking options.

Barcelona have been offered the chance to sign Inter Milan defender Benjamin Pavard, according to Sport. It is reported that the 29-year-old’s representatives see the Blaugrana as a potential landing spot, but the deal could be difficult due to their financial situation. Pavard remains linked with a move away from San Siro this summer, with previous reports suggesting that an offer worth €15m would be considered. He made 37 appearances across all competitions last season, and remains in contention for minutes in the France senior national team.

CONFIRMED DEALS

– Wolves have announced the €12.5m signing of full back Jackson Tchatchoua on a permanent deal from Hellas Verona.

EXPERT TAKE

ESPN’s Mark Ogden looks at the Man United goalkeeping situation.

Manchester United are in the market for a new goalkeeper and have been throughout the summer transfer window. Attempts to sign Aston Villa No. 1 Emi Martinez failed to bear fruit, however, when Villa refused to consider United’s offer of a loan deal for the Argentina international. There has also been interest in Paris Saint-Germain’s Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Martinez, who missed Villa’s opening game of the season against Newcastle due to suspension, could still make a move and United retain an interest, but the key at Old Trafford now is to offload a number of players in order to raise funds for a late move for a new keeper. Coach Rubem Amorim gave his public backing to Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir at the weekend. Onana was omitted from the squad to face Arsenal after only just returning from a hamstring injury, while Bayindir was at fault for the Gunners’ goal which sealed a 1-0 win for Mikel Arteta’s side.

But while Amorim is supporting his two keepers publicly, it is no secret that United considered Monaco interest in Onana this summer until the French club failed to meet their £30m valuation. Inter are reportedly keen to re-sign the Cameroon international, so if United can offload Onana, they will push to sign a new keeper before the Sept. 1 deadline.

Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Tyrell Malacia and Rasmus Højlund are all available, as are Onana and Bayindir for the right offers, but United need to move players on before additional signings. Deals will happen, though, so expect United to be busy before the window shuts.

Flamengo’s Copa Libertadores trophy damaged in title celebrations

The Copa Libertadores trophy won by Flamengo on Saturday was damaged during the team’s title celebrations.

Flamengo beat Palmeiras 1-0 in the final in Lima, Peru, to become the first Brazilian club to lift the prestigious cup four times.

Flamengo players and staff had a victory parade on the streets of Rio de Janeiro on Sunday afternoon, with an estimated 500,000 people joining in the celebrations.

Players and staff took turns to lift the cup during the parade and images showed that the top part of the trophy, which consists of a figurine of a footballer ready to kick a ball, was wrapped in what appeared to be masking tape.

The figurine had earlier been broken.

Flamengo will be hoping to wrap up the Brazilian league title on Wednesday when they take on Ceara in front of their own fans in Rio’s Maracana stadium.

Former England cricketer Moeen Ali has announced his return to the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying he was excited to be part of the league’s “new era”.

After the 10th edition of the PSL earlier this year, the league is set for an expansion to eight teams, with the addition of two new franchises.

Meanwhile, Moeen, who has previously featured in the marquee league when he represented former champions Multan Sultans in the 2020 and 2021 editions, expressed his eagerness to rejoin the league.

Moeen stated that the PSL, since its advent in 2016, has “earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket”, featuring close competition and talented players.

“I’m really excited to be joining HBL PSL in its New Era. The league has earned a reputation for top-level T20 cricket, with high-quality competition and world-class talent across every team,” Moeen wrote on Instagram.

The 38-year-old, who represented England in 68 Tests, 138 ODIs and 92 T20Is during his illustrious career, was also a part of the Three Lions squad that made its historic tour of Pakistan in 2022 to play a three-match Test series. Besides that, Moeen has made several visits to the country.

Reflecting on his previous experiences in Pakistan, Moeen said that he enjoyed playing in the country and specifically praised the enthusiastic crowd, which he said pushes players to give their best on the field.

“Playing in Pakistan is always incredible; quality of cricket is outstanding and the passion and intensity from the crowd push you to bring your best,” he continued.

“I’m looking forward to being part of it all and creating some great memories along the way. Ready for another special experience Insha’Allah!”

His announcement comes just days after former South African captain Faf du Plessis pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to play in the upcoming PSL season.

In a post on Instagram on November 29, the renowned cricketer said that he would not put his name in the IPL auction this year.

“It’s a big decision, and one that comes with a lot of gratitude when I look back,” he wrote in his post.
