Cricketer Haider Ali cleared in UK alleged rape case – SUCH TV

Pakistani international batter Haider Ali has been cleared in an alleged rape case after Greater Manchester Police determined there was not enough evidence against him to back up the allegations by a British-Pakistani girl.
Greater Manchester Police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) sources said that the case against Ali has been closed due to insufficient evidence to support the allegations.
Ali was represented by criminal law expert Barrister Moeen Khan.
The batter had been under investigation after a British-Pakistani woman accused him of raping her at a Manchester hotel. Police received the report on August 4 and arrested the 24-year-old cricketer the same day.
The woman told police she first met Ali on July 23, 2025, at a Manchester hotel where the alleged incident took place. She said they met again on August 1 in Ashford, about four hours by train from Manchester.
She filed her complaint four days later — around two weeks after the first meeting.
Police sources said that Ali is now free to leave the country. He has already collected his passport from the police station and can travel from the UK at any time of his choosing.
During his police interview, Ali denied the rape allegation. He told investigators that he knew the woman well and that they were friends, adding that the accusation came as a shock to him.
Ali was arrested at the Spitfire County Cricket Ground in Kent, from the players’ canteen, and taken to Canterbury Police Station by Kent Police officers.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had said Ali was provisionally suspended for the duration of the criminal investigation.
Ali has represented Pakistan in 35 T20 internationals since making his debut in 2020, as well as two one-day internationals.

Pakistan’s Shoaib Khan Zehri to face Indian rival in UBO World title clash

Pakistani professional boxer Shoaib Khan Zehri is set to represent the country in the upcoming Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) World title bout in Turkiye, where he will go up against Indian opponent Thakur Kumar.
The historic clash is scheduled to take place in Turkiye on September 27.
Zehri will be Pakistan’s sole representative in the prestigious event, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s 76-year boxing history.
The Quetta-born boxer expressed his determination ahead of the highly anticipated contest, saying that his ultimate goal is to bring glory to the country. “I will give my best to raise Pakistan’s flag high,” Shoaib said.
“This fight is about Pakistan’s honour. I am fully prepared and confident of beating my opponent,” he added.
The 27-year-old boxer also underlined the dedication and hard work he has put into his training camp. “I have trained hard for this challenge. My focus is on discipline, endurance and strategy,” he said.
“The youth from Balochistan and from all over Pakistan look up to me, and I want to show them that with commitment and hard work nothing is impossible,” he concluded.
In recognition of his achievements, the Balochistan Police recently appointed Zehri as its goodwill ambassador.
He was also conferred the honourary rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) by Inspector General of Police Moazzam Jah Ansari on February 19.
Notably, he is the second athlete from the province to be given this honour, following fast bowler Naseem Shah.
Zehri’s accolades include being a WBC gold medalist, Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Asian Champion, and Pakistan Boxing Council (PBC) national champion. He also heads Chief SKZ Promotion.
The 27-year-old maintains an unbeaten professional record with six wins, one draw, and one cancelled bout.
Zehri has steadily built a reputation as a disciplined and technically gifted boxer. His latest victory came on November 8, 2024, at the Fitbox Fighting Championship, where he outclassed Ziaullah Amin to secure a unanimous decision.
He defeated Muhammad Bilal in September last year at the Boxing Fight Show, again winning by unanimous decision.
Zehri also convincingly beat Sajid Khan in January 2024 in a bout titled Shoaib vs Khan.
Although his scheduled fight against Anocha Phuangkaew in March 2023 was cancelled, his 2022 campaign showcased his rise on the international stage.
On November 30, 2022, he defeated Indonesia’s Hendrik Barongsay via unanimous decision in The Challenger event.
Two months prior, on September 28, 2022, Zehri secured a third-round victory over Thailand’s Sornram Sopakul in Fight of the Future.
He also fought to a split draw against Irfan Ullah on July 31, 2022, at New Friend’s Professional Boxing Fight Night — the only blemish on his otherwise flawless record.
On June 10, 2022, he faced Ali Raza in the Khan vs Farooq event, where he impressed with a composed unanimous decision victory.

Neves reveals Jota tattoo as Portugal honour star

Rúben Neves has revealed a tattoo on his left leg in honour of his late friend Diogo Jota during a Portugal training session.
The Al Hilal midfielder is currently preparing with his national team for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Armenia and Hungary.
It came during Portugal’s first training camp since the passing of Jota, who died alongside his brother André Silva in a car crash on July 3 in Spain.

The image inked on Neves’ calf shows him embracing Jota, who is wearing his “Diogo J.” jersey, with the No. 21.
Neves, who had played with Jota for Portugal and at Porto and Wolves, was a close friend of the Liverpool forward.
He served as one of Jota’s pallbearers on the day of his funeral, just hours after competing with Al Hilal at the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.
A ceremony was held by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) on Tuesday evening to honour Jota and former FC Porto captain Jorge Costa, who died aged 53 on Aug. 5 after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Portugal’s full 23-man squad, including captain Cristiano Ronaldo, attended the ceremony, and it was Neves, who will now wear the No. 21 for Portugal previously worn by Jota, that spoke on behalf of his teammates.
“I and the entire national team team will do everything we can to keep Diogo here with us, on our team,” Neves said. “Thank you, Jorge, and Diogo. Forever in our hearts.”
Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, and his parents were at the ceremony and were presented with a special medal.
Bronze-framed jerseys engraved with Jota’s name and his No. 21 and that of Costa’s No. 2 were also unveiled in the FPF headquarters.
“As a century-old institution, the Portuguese Football Federation lives by its history,” FPF president Pedro Proença said.
“And it has an obligation to honor those who built it. Men like Diogo Jota and Jorge Costa, who loved football. Who loved their country. Who loved their national team. Men who defended, with courage and dedication, the colours of our flag.”
Jota earned 49 international caps for Portugal, during which he won the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and again this summer, scoring 14 goals.
