Indie records which cannot be ignored
We have listened to the chart-topping albums released in 2025 and given them their due recognition, but it’s important not to move on from the year without listening to the ones that stayed underrated.

Boygenius’ Lucy Dacus released her fourth studio album this year, which was much-awaited by fans after the release of her singles. The album featured a duet with Hozier, Bullseye, which became a special favourite among listeners.
- Kansas Anymore (The Longest Goodbye) by Role Model
Role Model, aka Tucker Pillsbury, released the deluxe version of his 2024 album Kansas Anymore, with four bonus tracks, including Sally, When the Wine Runs Out, which became a cultural moment this year as he invited many celebrities as “Sally” during the tour set.

Audrey Hobbert, who has famously worked as Gracie Abrams’ lyricist, released her debut album this year and caused a stir in the industry, going on to perform several live performances and building an organic fandom within a span of a few months.
Addison Rae released her debut self-titled album this year, which became an instant hit among fans and earned her a Grammy nomination for the best new artist award.
The California-based couple, Harry and Meghan, have not celebrated Chrismas in the UK since 2018, embracing a new chapter.

The couple’s 2018 card hinted at their futre together as they two chose an image taken on their wedding day. The picture shows the newly married pair arm-in-arm while gazing at the fireworks, filling the sky above them.
The photo seemingly highlighted their vision and th futre they palnned to explore togethe by keeping their heads up.
Their 2019 card features a seven-month-old Archie take centre stage. The couple tried to reveal what’s more important in their life amid speculations and rumours: The card shows them cherishing family time away from the spotlight, in Canada.
The Sussexes’ 2020 photo also shows how growing Archie begins to adopt American life. In 2021, the card highlights Lilibet’s public debut, a small but telling shift that reflected their new identity.
The couple’s other cards explain their new life in America with their kids along with the couple’s accolades and charitable work.
In the same way, the last year’s greeting captured humanitarian visits to Nigeria and Colombia, showing Archie and Lili racing to greet their parents with hugs.
It explained the couple’s strrategy to balance public impact with private joy.
Nick Reiner, a son of director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, has been arrested, according to online jail records from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department. He was booked on $4 million bail.
News of the arrest comes after Rob and Michele Reiner were found dead Sunday at their home in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood.
The Los Angeles Police Department said in a statement Sunday that the Robbery Homicide Division responded to the home but did not provide further details on the investigation other than to say it was an “apparent homicide.”
Rob Reiner was 78 and Michele Singer Reiner was 68. They married in 1989 and had three children.

Rob Reiner was known for his work on such movies as “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally…” and “This is Spinal Tap.” He rose to fame with his role in the iconic 1970s CBS sitcom “All in the Family.”
The couple’s deaths sent shockwaves across the country with reactions pouring in from Hollywood stars and politicians.
Former President Barack Obama said he and former first lady Michelle Obama said they were heartbroken by the deaths.
“Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen,” the former president said on social media. “But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action. Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them.”

The Sydney awards show, which was planned for December 17, now got cancelled after a terrible shooting that shocked the whole city.
The 2025 GQ Australia Men of the Year Awards were supposed to take place at the Overseas Passenger Terminal but organisers said that the event would not happen.
However, they sent their thoughts and best regards to the victims, their families and everyone affected by the tragedy.
The shooting also caused the cancellation of the Sydney premiere for Sam Worthington’s new movie, Avatar: Fire and Ash.
The red-carpet event was expected to feature the actor, director James Cameron and other stars but organisers said that it would not go ahead out of respect for the people who got hurt in the attack.
Police said in the matter that the two men, Naveed Akram, 24, and his father Sajid Akram, 50, opened fire near Bondi Pavilion.
They used powerful weapons and targeted people in the area. Moreover, 14 people died at the scene and two more died later in hospital, including one of the shooters.
42 others were taken to the hospital, including four children, as five people were in serious condition, including two police officers.
For the unversed, organisers have not yet announced new dates for the GQ Awards or the movie premiere yet.
Sydney is mourning the victims and trying to recover from the shocking events that shook the city.
