Marc Maron goes unfiltered about Jon Stewart feud

Marc Maron is finally owning up to what really fueled his longtime tension with Jon Stewart — his own insecurity.
The WTF podcast host, 62, got candid about his past rivalry with Stewart in a recent interview as “petty” and “completely rooted in jealousy.”
“Jon never did anything to me,” Maron told Esquire. “I was just jealous.”
He admitted that early in their careers, Stewart represented everything he thought he wasn’t. “He was this smart, cute Jewish guy who just had it together. Those people who understand their talent, know how to use it, and build careers on their own terms. That wasn’t me,” he said.
Maron admitted he felt out of control as a young comic, especially after taking over Stewart’s old Comedy Central gig on Short Attention Span Theater, only for it to be canceled soon after.
“I was desperate for a place in comedy,” he said. “Meanwhile, Jon was everywhere — MTV, talk shows, magazines. I couldn’t go a week without seeing his face. It drove me crazy.”
He even confessed to taking his resentment out directly on Stewart. “I’d just s*** on him, to his face. Like, ‘Who the f*** do you think you are?’” Maron recalled. “It was all envy. I thought, ‘If I could just get my s*** together, maybe I could be that guy.’”
But in hindsight, Maron realised he never actually wanted what Stewart had. “I didn’t get into comedy to be an entertainer or host a talk show,” he said. “I got into it to speak my mind. Comedy felt noble… like the only rule was to be funny, and beyond that, you could do whatever you wanted.”
Still, he admitted Stewart’s confidence hit a nerve. “He was himself in a way I wasn’t. And I was annoying to him,” Maron said. “Eventually he was like, ‘I don’t need to take this s*** from you.’ And honestly, fair.”
When asked if he ever tried to make peace, Maron said he did reach out when launching WTF. “I called him from Portland and said, ‘Hey, I’m making amends with people.’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, there’s no love here,’” Maron said. “Then he added, ‘Maybe we could get coffee sometime, but I’m not doing your podcast. I’m sure it’s very creative. Good luck with it.’”
Maron laughed at the irony of it now. “And now he’s doing a podcast,” he said. “So yeah — full circle.”

NY mayoral hopefuls clash in high-stakes debate

- Mamdani attacks Cuomo for his alleged sexual misconduct.
- Mamdani pulls off stunning upset in Democratic primary.
- Second debate will be held on October 22.
A socialist, an accused molester and a vigilante all hoping to be New York’s next mayor clashed in a debate with “high levels of testosterone” Thursday as the unpredictable campaign enters the homestretch.
Democratic candidate and frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, independent former New York governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa pitched to voters in the first of two televised debates ahead of the November 4 election.
Early voting begins on October 25.
Mamdani attacked Cuomo for his alleged sexual misconduct and controversial governing record “sending seniors to their death in nursing homes” during the Covid pandemic.
“Thank God I’m not a professional politician because they have created the crime crisis in this city,” Sliwa said, gesturing at his two rivals.
“There’s high levels of testosterone in this room,” he said later.
Mamdani pulled off a stunning upset in the Democratic Party primary, defeating political scion Cuomo who had been the favorite for weeks, becoming the party’s official nominee.
Mamdani has promised free bus services, rent freezes and city-run supermarkets, which Cuomo has panned as fanciful and unaffordable government overreach.
The race to govern the city’s 8.5 million people was again upended when sitting Mayor Eric Adams, who has been engulfed in corruption allegations, quit the race without endorsing another candidate.
Cuomo, 67, was the state governor from 2011 until 2021, when he resigned over sexual assault allegations.
Mamdani, 33, is a state lawmaker for the city borough of Queens and has run an insurgent grass-roots campaign that has motivated young New Yorkers at a high rate.
‘Take on Trump’
Trump has threatened to withhold federal funds from Mamdani’s administration if he is elected, calling him a “communist.”
But Mamdani said “I would make it clear to the president that I am willing to not only speak to him, but to work with him, if it means delivering on lowering the cost of living for New York.”
Cuomo warned “Trump will take over New York City, and it will be Mayor Trump” if Mamdani won — mirroring the takeover of much of the administration of the capital Washington.
Trump said Wednesday he had “terminated” the $16 billion Hudson Gateway tunnel linking New York to New Jersey, a years-long megaproject.
Asked in the debate for his dream news headline, Mamdani said it would be “Mamdani continues to take on Trump.”
Quinnipiac University polling suggests most voters will not have their minds changed by the TV debate with just 18% of Mamdani and Cuomo’s supporters “not likely” to alter their pick, compared to 24% of Sliwa’s backers.
In the latest polling Sliwa, a 71-year-old who founded the Guardian Angels vigilante group in 1979, is trailing a distant third with 15% in the most recent poll, behind Cuomo’s 33% and Mamdani’s 46%.
Sliwa insisted he would not bow to inducements he alleged were arranged by Cuomo — who denies the claim — to quit the race, like lucrative jobs with fat salaries and a driver.
“I said, ‘Hey, this is not only unethical, it’s bribery, and it could be criminal,” Sliwa told AFP ahead of the showdown.
A second debate will be held on October 22.

Meghan Markle celebrates big ‘moment’ post Paris Fashion Week success

Meghan Markle has received a positive moment of her career in a long time, says an insider.
The Duchess of Sussex, who recently went to Paris Fashion Week to support Balenciaga for the show, is said to have her ‘moment’ in a long while.
An industry expert has said: “Paris was a ‘moment’ for her. It’s the first positive PR she’s had in years. Fashion is where she will aim her focus now.”
This comes days before Meghan attended Powerful Women Summit in Washington DC this week.
During the summit, Alyson Shontell, editor-in-chief of Fortune, said to the duchess: “You’ve been to Europe. You were just in New York, which, congratulations, you just won a humanitarian award for your work with online safety for parents and children, and you made it home for one day to see your kids.”
Meghan laughed and replied: “Because I had to. We were talking about that because everyone said ‘Oh you must have gone from Paris straight to New York’.
“I said ‘No, I need to see my babies’. So I went back to California for a day and then continued on,” she admitted.

King Charles is demanded answers as Prince Andrew is ‘tainted’

King Charles is under pressure to find a a solution to Prince Andrew problem.
His Majesty is left with no choice but to take away his younger brother’s Royal privileges amid excerpts from Virginia Giuffre’s memoir.
Prince Andrew, who has been accused of sexually assaulting Giuffre back in the days, has been further exposed in an excerpt from the victim’s new book.
Royal expert Jennie Bond told the Mirror: “I think things have reached such a state now, with the latest excerpts from Virgina Giuffre’s book, that the public wants another show of punishment for Andrew.

“It seems impossible to force him out of Royal Lodge, but he could certainly be removed from the Order of the Garter.
“It is a hideous quandary for the King, but Andrew’s association with Epstein – who so grievously preyed on young girls – is now tainting the monarchy and all the good work it does. Something has to be done,” she notes.
She then establishes: “Banning him from shoots etc would be another humiliation, for sure. But is it enough?”
