Meg Ryan honors Rob Reiner and his wife Michele, praising their belief in love, fairy tales and laughter

Actress Meg Ryan paid tribute to Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner on Wednesday, praising the couple for their belief in “true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter.”

Ryan starred in Reiner’s “When Harry Met Sally…,” a classic rom-com that served as her breakout role.

“Oh how we will miss this man,” Ryan said in a post on Instagram. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle, for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

“I have to believe that their story will not end with this impossible tragedy, that some good may come, some awareness raised,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

Reiner and his wife were found dead Sunday at their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. Their son Nick Reiner has been arrested on murder charges.

Ryan’s “When Harry Met Sally” co-star Billy Crystal released a joint statement with several other close friends of Reiner’s, including his childhood friend Albert Brooks. In the statement provided to The Associated Press, they said, “Rob Reiner not only was a great comic actor, he became a master story teller. … His comedic touch was beyond compare.”

“Michele and Rob Reiner devoted a great deal of their lives for the betterment of our fellow citizens,” the statement said. “They were a special force together-dynamic, unselfish and inspiring. We were their friends, and we will miss them forever.”

The happy ending of “When Harry Met Sally…” had some real-life inspiration, with Reiner saying he changed it to have the couple end up together after meeting his future wife Michele on the set of the film. The two married in 1989 and had three children together: sons Nick and Jake, and daughter Romy.

CBS celebrates Reiner’s life and life’s work through the eyes of those who knew him in “CBS News: Rob Reiner – Scenes from a Life,” a one-hour special that will be broadcast Sunday at 8:30 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.

Hugh Jackman to appear in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

Hugh Jackman set to star in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’?

Hugh Jackman may have given a subtle hint about his secret role in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday.

Jackman, who plays Wolverine in Marvel Cinematic Universe, claimed that he is not done with his role.

In an interview with The View, The Greatest Showman star, explained why he thinks his time with MCU is far from over.

On asking if it is “a clue that you’re gonna be in Avengers: Doomsday,” Jackman replied, “That’s not a clue.”

He went on to cover his face, adding, “Watch my face. Try to work this out. No.”

However, the Logan actor admitted that it “just doesn’t” feel like the end of the road for his character after going from 20th Century Fox era of superhero films into the MCU with the 2024 box office smash hit, Deadpool & Wolverine.

The Oscar nominee recalled that for five years while he had decided that he won’t play the character anymore, Ryan Reynolds kept on persuading him to make a comeback.

“And then I rang him one day and said, ‘I’m in,’” Jackman said. “And so I go with this — and that’s what my gut says — it’s not done. But that’s just me! Marvel might have different ideas.”

The Emmy winner comments came after the swirling speculations that he and Reynolds could potentially reprise their roles as Wolverine and Deadpool in Doomsday.

Previously, Reynolds also teased his fans with an Instagram post featuring a red anarchy symbol graffitied over the Avengers logo.

Another hint of Jackman playing part in the film, that he isn’t the only X-Men mutant getting in on the action if he joined the cast.

The film will see the return of Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, and James Marsden in addition to Channing Tatum, who made his debut as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine and is now set to star in Avengers: Doomsday.

While Jackman’s role is yet to be confirmed, Avengers: Doomsday is slated for release on December 18, 2026.

  • PM says expats send $38bn yearly, aiding economy.
  • says Migrants’ real strength is in their skills and determination.
  • Adds govt working through EU Talent Partnerships, bilateral pacts.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said more than 12 million overseas Pakistanis were a valuable national asset, being the ambassadors of our homeland’s potential and culture and serving as a strong bridge between Pakistan and other nations.

“Their remittances, exceeding $38 billion annually, provided key support to the national economy and were a source of livelihood for millions of families, adding, however, that the real strength of these migrants lies in their skills, hard work and determination,” the PM said in a message on the International Migrants Day, which is observed on December 18.

“The Government of Pakistan is focused on imparting skills and technical education to those going abroad, as success in today’s global economy requires not only technical expertise but also social skills and proficiency in various languages.”

He said that to meet such requirements, the government was aligning the technical and vocational training system with the international standards. In this context, the government was promoting social training, diverse skills and foreign language education so that its workforce could meet the demands of the modern age.

Today, the prime minister said Pakistan joined countries around the globe in paying tribute to the courage, resilience, sacrifices, and invaluable contributions of those individuals who left their homelands to make a living in other countries.

“This year, International Migrants Day is being observed under the theme ‘My Great Story: Cultures and Development.’ This theme highlights the reality that human mobility on a large scale proves to be a useful source of prosperity and benefits,” PM Office Media Wing in a press release, quoted the prime minister as saying.

The prime minister observed that the movement of people from diverse social backgrounds enriched societies culturally and promoted innovation and creativity within communities.

“When a multicultural society is based on the principles of cooperation, dignity and rights, it advances sustainable and long-term development,” he added.

He said through the European Union Talent Partnership, as well as memoranda of understanding concluded with various countries, Pakistan was establishing an organised system to ensure international recognition of the skills of overseas Pakistanis and the protection of their rights.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the drafts of the National Emigration and Welfare Policy and the National Reintegration Policy ensured that every individual going abroad experiences a safe, secure and dignified journey at all stages.

The prime minister stressed upon renewal of their commitment to play a role in empowering those who were forced by circumstances to seek job opportunities abroad, by equipping them with skills and ensuring safer, more dignified opportunities, so that the shared journey of development might bring dividends.
