LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board on Sunday announced a revised schedule for the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after deciding to hold the tournament without spectators under the government’s austerity measures.

In a significant restructuring, the number of host cities has been reduced from six to two, with all matches now set to be played exclusively in Lahore and Karachi. The decision aligns with officially announced national resource conservation efforts.

According to the updated itinerary, the tournament will comprise 44 matches played over 39 days, with each city hosting 22 fixtures. The opening match between the Hyderabad Kingsmen and Lahore Qalandars remains unchanged.

Lahore will host Eliminators 1 and 2, as well as the final, while the Qualifier will take place in Karachi.

As the tournament temporarily adopts a watch-from-home model, organisers have confirmed the introduction of enhanced broadcast and production features designed to deliver a superior viewing experience for fans in Pakistan and around the world.

League officials expressed confidence that audience passion, combined with innovative coverage, would make this one of the most widely watched editions to date.

Addressing the absence of in-person spectators, a statement acknowledged that crowds at stadiums would be sorely missed.

It was estimated that an average of 30,000 spectators and associated support staff travelling daily for over a month would place considerable strain on energy resources.

By limiting the tournament to two cities, the league said it would also significantly reduce the extensive operational arrangements, transport logistics, and utility overheads associated with a six-city event.

Organisers reaffirmed their commitment to delivering high-quality cricket while aligning with national priorities, stating that the league would proceed with the unity, discipline, and excellence that have established it as a defining symbol of Pakistan’s sporting strength.

Revised PSL 11 schedule:

  • Mar 26 – Match 1: Lahore Qalandars vs Hyderabad Kingsmen (Lahore, 7:00 PM)

Princess Kate receives roaring welcome as she steps out in Reggio Emilia

The Princess of Wales, who has embarked on her first-ever solo overseas tour to Italy after her cancer battle, stepped out in a stunning powder blue tailored trouser suit on Wednesday.

Kate had arrived for a two-day visit in Reggio Emilia in northern Italy for her passion project, Centre for Early Years development.

As she stepped out of her vehicle for her inaugural engagement at Piazza Camillo Prampolini, she was greeted by the hoards of crowds waiting for her glimpse. Mayor Marco Massari was also waiting for the royal outside the square.

Catherine will be awarded the town’s highest honour – the ‘Primo Tricolore’ – in recognition of her work on early years development of children.

This is a significant step in Princess Kate’s royal duties after she recovered from her cancer battle last year.

Prior to Kate’s arrival, a royal aide revealed that the Princess is feeling “energised, enthused and excited” about her work as she is ready to kick off a global mission in her work.

“I think it is only right that her first international trip since her illness is one that is focused on an issue that is committed to championing for decades to come and is a real issue that she wants to shine a spotlight on,” the aide had said.

  • Tuesday’s request for physical remand was rejected.
  • Police later filed fresh plea for custody for investigation.
  • Pinky arrested from Garden area, wanted in ‘multiple’ cases.

A local court in Karachi on Wednesday approved a three-day physical remand of a high-profile woman “drug peddler”, Anmol alias Pinky, in a case registered by Karachi South Police.

The police approached the court a day after a request for her physical remand was rejected. The suspect had earlier been sent to jail on judicial remand.

The investigating officer had cited three main grounds in the remand report: identifying the source of cocaine supply, determining her financial resources, and conducting a Criminal Record Office (CRO) check.

During Wednesday’s hearing, the investigating officer once again sought physical remand in the case registered against Pinky. The DIG South said that a fresh plea for physical remand was filed before the court, adding that the details of previous cases against Anmol alias Pinky have also been collected.

Pinky, who was arrested from Karachi’s Garden area, was a highly wanted suspect and had been absconding in at least 10 different cases, according to police.

Police said weapons, cocaine, and other drugs worth around Rs1.5 million were recovered from her custody, adding that she was allegedly running a drug supply network in the port city.

‘Pinky’s voice note’

Separately, the investigators recovered multiple audio messages from her mobile phone. In one recording, she is heard warning contacts about a possible arrest and suggesting that her network would continue through another individual handling her operations.

“Hi friends! If you are listening to this message, it means either something has happened to me or I am no longer alive. If anything happens to me, someone will continue contacting you from this same number,” Pinky can be heard saying this in the alleged voice note.

“The contact person will be a man, my friend, who will handle the work. If something happens to me, the work will continue through the same number.”

SSP South removed from inquiry

In a separate development, the SSP South has been removed from the inquiry and was replaced by DIG West Irfan Baloch, according to a notification.

Irfan Baloch has been assigned to investigate all matters that surfaced during Pinky’s court appearance on Tuesday. The inquiry will also examine alleged violations of protocol.

The DIG West has been directed to submit his report within three days, as per the notification. The Additional IG said that strict action will be taken against any officers or officials found guilty of negligence or misconduct.
