Alec Baldwin shares retirement plans after ‘Rust’ tragedy
Alec Baldwin has opened up about wanting to step back from acting and spend more time with his family, saying the years surrounding the fatal Rust shooting changed him in ways he is still processing.
Speaking toThe Hollywood Reporter, Baldwin, 68, reflected on the three and a half years he spent largely at home with wife Hilaria and their seven children following the 2021 death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the Rust film set.
“For me, because of the situation in New Mexico, that was very painful,” he said. “I wound up staying home a lot. I was home with my kids for three and a half years. I hardly worked at all.”
That period at home, he said, has fundamentally shifted what he wants.
“That’s just changing now, I’m going to go off and do a bunch of things, but I was home and I got used to it, and I don’t want to leave my house anymore. I don’t. I don’t want to work anymore. I don’t. I really don’t. I want to retire and stay home with my kids.”
He gave a flavour of what daily life looks like now, recounting a recent moment shopping for ski jackets with his son Romeo.
When Baldwin weighed in on the colour choices, Romeo cut him down to size.
“He looks at me and goes, ‘What do you know? You’re from Long Island.'” Baldwin added, laughing: “And that’s my life now, day after day after day after day.”
Hutchins was killed when a gun Baldwin was holding discharged during a rehearsal on the New Mexico set in October 2021.
He was charged with involuntary manslaughter in January 2023, with those charges dropped and then refiled in 2024 before being dismissed with prejudice during his July 2024 trial after a judge ruled prosecutors had withheld evidence.
Baldwin has spoken previously about how much he credits Hilaria, 42, with getting him through the aftermath.
“I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have her,” he told PEOPLE.
Despite his stated desire to stop working, Baldwin does have several projects still on the horizon, including The Cutting Room Floor and a comedy called National Lampoon’s Hollywood Hustle in which he plays a fictionalised version of himself.
He most recently appeared in the Spanish comedy Torrente Presidente, playing Donald Trump.

Diplo reacts to Justin Bieber Coachella set amid mixed reviews
Justin Bieber’s Coachella performance ended up receiving a divided response, but Diplo was a complete fan of the Grammy winner taking over the stage on Saturday, April 11.
The Baby hitmaker, 32, brought a laidback approach to the music festival and took fans down the memory lane with his early hits like Baby, Sorry, and That Should Be Me.
While some criticised his set for being “lazy” and low effort, Diplo held it in high esteem, saying, “I was surprised he even went [back] to the classics, but the way he played it was amazing,” at Maison Martell’s Toast to Afrobeats brunch before day 3 of the festival in Indio, California.
The DJ continued, “Nobody [else] could go to Coachella and just sit on his laptop and play off YouTube because that’s like — that’s legendary. And he gave you a little bit. He was like, ‘I got so many hits, here, you get this.’ “
Although some fans, and Zara Larsson critiqued Bieber’s chill vibe, Diplo noted that the set was “like being at a party with him.”
He added that the lineup was very “diverse,” saying, “They have everybody from Davido to hardcore techno. Nine Inch Noize was awesome last night. It’s a little bit of everything for anyone, and you can learn a lot about music.”
Alongside Diplo, several artists applauded the Daisies hitmaker on his performance, including Finneas, Labrinth, Lizzo, and more.

James Cameron on working with Billie Eilish in new movie: ‘Great’
James Cameron and Billie Eilish are an unlikely pairing, but a new trailer for their upcoming concert film suggests the collaboration has been a natural one.
Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D), which arrives in cinemas on 8 May, documents Eilish’s sold-out 2025 world tour and was co-directed by the Avatar and Titanic filmmaker, 71.
A new trailer released on Monday, 13 April, shows the pair side by side in 3D glasses, working through creative decisions together for what promises to be a visually ambitious project.
Cameron sets the tone early in the clip.
“It’s your show. It’s your creative vision,” he tells the 24-year-old singer. “This is going to blow people’s minds.”
Elsewhere in the trailer, as the pair work through the technical demands of the production, Cameron tells her: “We’re going to have to play some games, but we’ll make it look great.”
Beyond the spectacle, the film appears to offer something more personal, a window into Eilish’s relationship with her fanbase.
The trailer shows her with scratches on her hand from running along the barricade high-fiving concertgoers, and captures her reflecting on shows from a tour bus confessional.
“The day of a show, for me, just feels like any day at all. I just feel like I’m going to hang out with my friends,” she says.
Later, asked by Cameron whether she loves her fans, she replies simply: “I love them.”
She also shares her ambition in plain terms: “I want to be the artist that I would want to be a fan of.”
One of the trailer’s lighter touches involves Eilish’s habit of setting up a “puppy room” at each tour stop, a space where crew members can spend time with dogs from local rescue organisations between the demands of the job.
Cameron was apparently so taken with the idea that he told Eilish he planned to do the same on his next film.
Eilish shared the trailer on Instagram with the caption: “It’s almost HEREEEEE.” The film hits cinemas 8 May.
