There was no fourth-quarter magic for J.J. McCarthy in his second NFL start, as the Atlanta Falcons handled the Minnesota Vikings on the road to win their first game of the season, 22-6.

McCarthy stole a victory in Chicago last Monday after orchestrating a thrilling fourth quarter against the Bears. But the Falcons had all the answers for the young quarterback on “Sunday Night Football” to get in the win column. 

McCarthy went 11-of-21 through the air for 158 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in a game where he had some chances for big plays, but he just didn’t have the right touch on his passes. With the lack of a successful run game, the Falcons were sending all types of pressure and McCarthy went down for six sacks.

But McCarthy’s opponent, Michael Penix Jr., wasn’t having the best of games at the quarterback position either. Penix was just 13-of-21 for 135 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions. He also missed some throws that could’ve led to a touchdown earlier than Tyler Allgeier’s late fourth-quarter score, which was the dagger for the Falcons.

Allgeier’s five-yard rush was the only touchdown for either team in this game, as it was a field goal battle throughout with both teams struggling to convert on red zone chances. Parker Romo, the Falcons’ new kicker as Younghoe Koo was benched after a rough week 1 performance, was up for the challenge as he knocked in all five of his field goal attempts, including his longest from 54 yards out.

Though the pass game wasn’t efficient for Atlanta, star running back Bijan Robinson picked up the slack with 143 rushing yards on 22 carries to lead the game in that category. Drake London was the leading receiver for the Falcons with 49 yards on three receptions. 

For the Vikings, Justin Jefferson had 81 yards, though he caught just three passes. After McCarthy’s second interception of the game on the Vikings’ final drive, Jefferson was noticeably frustrated on the sideline, but who wouldn’t be when the offense truly clicked in the fourth quarter this past week? 

McCarthy and the Vikings will hope to be more consistent from start to finish next week when they face the Cincinnati Bengals, who are expected to be without quarterback Joe Burrow after he suffered a toe injury on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Falcons hit the road again, but against an NFC South rival in the Carolina Panthers next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.

Week 2 of the NFL season included big wins and close calls, but the trolling remained a constant.

In a rematch of Super Bowl LIX, it was déjà vu for the Kansas City Chiefs as the visiting Philadelphia Eagles won 20-17 at Arrowhead Stadium. Kansas City is now 0-2 for the first time since 2014, while Philadelphia is 18-1 in its past 19 games, including playoffs, dating to last season. Over the past 10 seasons, the Eagles are the second team with 18 wins in a 19-game span, according to ESPN Research.

Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts accounted for 116 total yards and a touchdown, while Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 187 yards plus a touchdown and interception. He also had a rushing touchdown.

The Eagles’ victory came with multiple trolls, including poking fun at the “Chiefs Kingdom” rally cry and acknowledging their undefeated record against the Chiefs in the calendar year.

Here are more of the top trolls from Week 2.

The San Francisco 49ers moved to 2-0 after defeating the New Orleans Saints on the road. New Orleans had a chance to take the lead late, regaining possession with 2:40 left in the fourth quarter.

However, while facing a fourth-and-1 on the Saints’ own 42-yard-line, quarterback Spencer Rattler was sacked, clinching the 49ers’ victory. Starting in place of Brock Purdy, San Francisco quarterback Mac Jones had 279 passing yards with three touchdowns.

Coming off a wild “Sunday Night Football” win in Week 1, Buffalo fans were treated to a less-stressful game this week — at least in terms of the box score.

The Buffalo Bills scored 20 unanswered points en route to a comfortable win, but quarterback Josh Allen briefly exited the game with a bloody nose. Allen missed only two plays and ended up throwing for 148 yards while rushing for 59. On the ground, Buffalo was led by 132 rushing yards and two touchdowns by James Cook, including a 44-yard score.

Allen’s bloody nose became the topic of a Bills’ troll aimed at the New York Jets. Buffalo used a clip from “Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story” where White Goodman — played by Ben Stiller — declares that “nobody makes me bleed my own blood” to rivals Peter La Fleur and Kate Veatch.

The first overtime game of the new NFL season didn’t disappoint. The Dallas Cowboys needed a 64-yard Brandon Aubrey field goal to force overtime, then a 46-yarder to win it, capping a wild matchup.

Dallas seemed to have won the game when quarterback Dak Prescott found wide receiver George Pickens for a touchdown with 52 seconds left in regulation. New York answered as quarterback Russell Wilson connected with wide receiver Malik Nabers on a 48-yard touchdown. The play gave the Giants a three-point lead with 25 seconds left, but Aubrey’s kick sent the game to the extra period.

The big win came with a simple troll — Dallas emphasized “Giant” in its social media post.

The Seattle Seahawks used a 17-point fourth quarter to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers and win their first game of the season.

Sam Darnold threw for 295 yards plus two touchdowns and two interceptions, while running back Kenneth Walker III had 105 rushing yards and a score. Seattle wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 106 yards. The Steelers have now allowed 30-plus points in each of their first two games of a season for the first time since 2002, according to ESPN Research.

The Seahawks’ victory came with a simple troll as they referenced the common Pittsburgh saying “yinz” in their postgame post.

There may be some tension between head coach Liam Coen and star quarterback Trevor Lawrence in the Jacksonville Jaguars’ locker room.

During the Jaguars’ 31-27 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, Lawrence was seen waving off Coen after throwing an inaccurate pass on a crucial down late in the game.

The play came on second down with 4:14 left and Jacksonville holding a three-point lead. 

Lawrence targeted wide receiver Dyami Brown on a short pass that would have likely set up a manageable third down.

But Lawrence’s throw sailed high. Brown got his hands on it but couldn’t secure the catch. Broadcast cameras then showed Coen appearing to yell at Lawrence. Coen repeatedly pounded his chest, seemingly signaling that Lawrence needed to hit his receivers lower.

Lawrence didn’t take kindly to the criticism, waving Coen off as he moved on to the next play. But after failing to convert on third down, the Jaguars went for it on fourth.

This time, Lawrence hit his top target, Brian Thomas Jr., square in the chest, but Thomas couldn’t hang on. The incompletion forced a turnover on downs, giving Cincinnati the opening it needed.

The Bengals responded with a 92-yard drive over 15 plays, capped by backup quarterback Jake Browning stretching across the goal line in the final seconds for the win. Browning was in after Joe Burrow left with a toe injury in the second quarter.

After the game, Coen downplayed the sideline exchange.

“It was just one throw. I was pissed. It is what it is. That’s emotion,” he said, via Yahoo Sports. “It’s not personal, ever. That’s just me getting worked up.

“I was very pleased with [Lawrence’s] competitive nature. The way he stayed calm on the sidelines. He’s pretty even-keel, which is good for me. I need that.”
